The Yuasa 896 (often also referenced as 53034) is a robust specialist battery from the "YBX Active Specialist & Garden" series. It was primarily developed for ride-on mowers, garden tractors, small municipal vehicles and so-called "kit cars". With a capacity of 26 Ah and a solid 250 A cold start current, it provides reliable starting power for small petrol engines, even after long periods of standing. Due to its construction, it is particularly resistant to the typical vibrations encountered in gardening and landscaping.

What is the difference to the U1 / U1R battery?

This is the most common mistake when buying!

• Yuasa 896: Dimensions approx. 187 x 127 x 181 mm. Pole arrangement often Positive Left.
• Yuasa U1 / U1R: Dimensions approx. 196 x 131 x 184 mm. Slightly longer and wider. The 896 (or 53034) is a European/Asian DIN size, while U1 is an American BCI standard. Check your battery box: if it is very tight, the U1 often will not fit. In addition, the terminals are often positioned differently on the 896.

Where is the positive terminal?

With the Yuasa 896 (layout 1), the positive terminal is located on the left side (when viewed from the front to the terminals). Be sure to compare this with your old battery, as the cables in lawn tractors are usually very short and may not reach the other side.

How do I store the battery in winter?

Garden batteries suffer particularly badly during the winter break. Tip: Remove the battery in autumn and store it in a cool, frost-free place (cellar). Charge it at least every 2-3 months with a suitable charger (e.g. CTEK XS 0.8 or MXS 5.0). A discharged battery will freeze and be defective in the spring (not covered by guarantee!).

Will it fit in my "kit car"?

Yes, the 896 is often used in small kit cars (e.g. Caterham, Westfield - depending on the bracket) or as a starter battery for small generators due to its compact dimensions and good performance. However, check if the cold start current of 250 A is sufficient for your engine (often too little for high-compression car engines).
