9V Lithium
The Ultralife U9VLJP-BP (technical designation U9VL-J-P) is the world’s best-known and most widely used 9V lithium battery for long-term applications. It is the modern successor to the classic alkaline 9V blocks and outperforms them in every respect: it lasts up to 5 times longer, is lighter and functions reliably even at extreme temperatures. It is particularly well known as the "10-year battery" for high-quality smoke alarms, as it often does not need to be replaced throughout the entire service life of the alarm. It is shipped in a practical single blister pack (BP = Blister Pack).Highlights at a glance10 years of safety: Enables a service life of up to 10 years in many ion smoke alarms, making those annoying night-time "beeps" due to low batteries a thing of the past.Maximum capacity (1200mAh): With 1200 mAh, it offers almost twice the capacity of a high-quality alkaline battery (approx. 500-600 mAh) and four times that of a zinc-carbon battery.Flat discharge curve: Maintains a consistently high operating voltage for a long time. Whilst alkaline batteries lose voltage linearly, the Ultralife delivers full power right up until the end.Ultralight: Weighing approx. 37 g, it is around 25 % lighter than a conventional 9V block battery (approx. 45-50 g), making it ideal for portable devices such as wireless microphones or medical monitors.Extreme temperature range: Operational from -20 °C to +60 °C – perfect for use in cold garages, storage rooms or outdoors (e.g. electronic door locks).Long shelf life: Thanks to lithium technology, it has an extremely low self-discharge rate and can be stored for up to 10 years without any issues before being used. The standard for smoke alarms & medical technologyThe Ultralife U9VLJP is the original equipment battery for almost all major manufacturers of high-quality smoke alarms. Furthermore, it is extremely popular in medical technology (infusion pumps, patient monitors), in security technology (alarm systems, motion detectors), among musicians (active pickups in guitars, wireless systems) and in industry for data loggers. This is the most common misconception. It is a lithium primary battery (disposable). Never attempt to recharge this battery in a charger (risk of explosion). If you are looking for rechargeable 9V batteries, you will need "NiMH" or "Li-ion batteries" (often 8.4V or 7.4V).Does it fit mechanically in every device?Yes, the U9VLJP complies with the standard size ANSI 1604. In very rare cases with very old devices, the battery compartment may be extremely tight-fitting, as alkaline batteries have rounded corners, whereas the Ultralife is slightly more "angular" (see image). However, it fits perfectly in 99.9 % of modern devices (smoke alarms, multimeters, toys). Why is it so much more expensive than an alkaline battery? The higher price is offset by the service life. An Ultralife lasts up to 5x longer than a standard battery.Calculation example: If you replace an alkaline battery (approx. €2) in a smoke alarm every 1-2 years and have to fetch a ladder each time, that costs approx. €10-20 plus labour over 10 years. An Ultralife (approx. €8-10) often lasts the full 10 years. You save money and effort. How do I dispose of the battery? As this is a lithium battery, please cover both terminals with a strip of adhesive tape before disposal (risk of short circuit in the collection container). Then hand it in at an official battery collection point (supermarket or recycling centre).
The Ultralife U9VLJP10 is the economical bulk package (bulk pack) of the proven U9VL-J-P 9V lithium battery. This set contains 10 pieces of high-performance batteries, mostly in space-saving foil packaging instead of individual plastic blisters. This variant is aimed specifically at professional users, janitorial services, hoteliers and installers who need to service a large number of smoke detectors, security sensors or medical devices at the same time. Technically, the cell is identical to the retail version: it offers up to 10 years of service life and maximum reliability.Highlights at a glanceValue pack (10 pieces): Supplied as a 10-unit package (often foil-wrapped or in an industrial carton), which reduces the price per battery compared to individual blister packs and reduces packaging waste – ideal for large projects. The smoke detector standard: Enables up to 10 years maintenance-free operation in compatible smoke detectors, which drastically minimises maintenance effort in rental properties and commercial premises.High energy density: With 1200 mAh, it offers huge reserves for long-term use and lasts up to 5 times longer than conventional 9V alkaline batteries.Long shelf life: Thanks to the very low self-discharge, you can easily store this 10-pack for up to 10 years without the batteries losing significant performance.Wide range of applications: Works reliably at temperatures from -20°C to +60°C, making it the first choice for unheated warehouses, attics or garages.Safety construction: The housing is robust and leak-proof; the lithium manganese dioxide chemistry is non-toxic and contains no cadmium, mercury or lead. The solution for facility management & large installationsThe U9VLJP10 is the standard choice when entire buildings need to be equipped with new batteries. Whether during the annual replacement in hospitals (pagers, monitors), in hotels (electronic door locks, safes) or in apartment buildings (smoke detectors): The bulk pack saves time when unpacking and is kind to the budget. BP = Blister Pack (individually packaged for retail sale). 10 (or FP) = Foil Pack / Bulk (10 pieces packed together for industry). The U9VLJP10 is more environmentally friendly (less plastic waste) and usually cheaper per item.Is "round cell" the correct term?Your enquiry mentioned "round cell", which is a common misunderstanding. The U9VL is a 9V block (rectangular, prismatic). Internally, it consists of three flat cells (not round cells), but the design is the classic "E-block". Ultralife also manufactures real round cells (like the ER14505 AA), but the designation U9VL always refers to the 9V block. What happens if I store the batteries?Almost nothing. That is the great advantage of lithium. You can buy this 10-pack, take out 2 batteries and put the remaining 8 in a cupboard for 8 years. If you need the remaining 8 batteries then, they will still have almost 100% of their charge. Store them ideally in a cool, dry place. Are the batteries packed short-circuit-proof?As a rule, the batteries in the pack of 10 are supplied so that the terminals cannot touch each other (e.g. by a plastic cap on each battery or a tightly fitting foil). Important: If you open the pack and put loose batteries in a drawer, be sure to tape the terminals or leave the protective cap on. If two 9V blocks touch at the terminals, a short circuit immediately occurs (fire hazard!).
