The Yuasa SWL+3500FR is the high-end safety version of the most powerful 12V block in the SWL family. It combines the massive capacity of 110.2 Ah with the extreme high-current capability of the SWL+ series and a housing with the highest fire protection class (UL94 V-0).

This battery is the ultimate for large UPS systems in critical infrastructures (data centres, banks, hospitals). It offers maximum energy density in a standard footprint and at the same time fulfils the strictest safety requirements with regard to structural fire protection. With a service life of 12+ years the SWL+3500FR is the first choice for system operators who demand maximum availability and safety.

Highlights at a glance

  • FR safety housing (Flame Retardant): The housing and cover are made of flame-retardant ABS plastic in accordance with the standard UL94 V-0. In the event of fire, the material extinguishes automatically and prevents burning dripping – a mandatory requirement for insurance coverage in many server rooms.
  • Maximum capacity (110.2 Ah): With over 110 Ah (C10) this block offers approx. 10% more energy than standard batteries in the 100Ah class. You maximise the autonomy time of your UPS without having to enlarge the battery cabinet.
  • SWL+ High Rate Performance (3500 Watt): The code "3500" stands for the enormous power output (watts per block). This battery is optimised to deliver extremely high currents for short periods in order to stably support megawatt loads in the event of a power failure.
  • Eurobat "Very Long Life": Classified for a service life of 12+ years (Design Life up to 15 years). This drastically minimises total cost of ownership (TCO) due to less frequent replacement cycles.
  • HT Element X technology: The special hybrid alloy of the grid plates minimises internal corrosion and water loss. This makes the battery extremely resistant to ageing, even with years of float charging.
  • Maintenance-free & safe: VRLA-AGM technology (Absorbent Glass Mat). The electrolyte is immobilised in the mat, the battery is leak-proof, has low gassing, and does not require water replenishment.

Installation & Safety Instructions

  • Note weight: With almost 40 kg this block is extremely heavy. Populating battery cabinets must be carried out using lifting aids or by two people.
  • Connection (M8): Due to the enormous currents (short-circuit current >2500A), this block features large M8 terminals. The recommended tightening torque is about 6 Nm. Use insulated tools!
  • FR obligation: Never mix FR batteries (grey/UL94 V-0) with standard batteries (black/HB) in one string, as this will void the fire protection certification of the whole installation.
  • Ventilation: Even with VRLA batteries, ventilation must be provided in accordance with EN 50272-2.

FAQs on the Yuasa SWL+3500FR

What is the difference to the normal SWL3500?

Technically (electrically) they are identical. The difference lies purely in the case material.

  • SWL3500: Standard ABS plastic (burns slowly, but burns).
  • SWL3500FR: Flame-retardant plastic (UL94 V-0, self-extinguishing). For public buildings and data centres the FR variant is usually mandatory.

Can I use this battery as a replacement for a 100Ah battery?

Yes, this is a perfect upgrade. The dimensions (approx. 305mm length) correspond to the industry standard for 100Ah blocks. By swapping to the SWL+3500FR you get 110.2 Ah (+10% capacity), a massively higher high-current output and the safety of the FR housing without having to rebuild the cabinet.

Why does this battery have M8 terminals?

With outputs of over 3500 watts per block, extremely high currents flow during discharge. Smaller terminals (M6) would heat up excessively and provide too much contact resistance. M8 guarantees safe and low-loss current transmission.
