Yuasa SWL+2450FR Industrial VRLA battery - 12V / 80Ah (flame retardant / high rate)
Description
Product information
The Yuasa SWL+2450FR is the safety-optimised version of the SWL+ high-performance block with a capacity of 80 Ah. It combines the extreme power density of the "High Rate" technology with a housing of the highest fire protection class (UL94 V-0).
This 12-volt block has been specially developed for critical infrastructures (data centres, banks, hospitals) where fire protection regulations must be strictly observed. The SWL+2450FR supplies extremely high currents for short periods of time (hence the "2450" for the watt output) and at the same time offers an excellent service life expectation of 12+ years (Very Long Life).
Highlights at a glance
- FR safety housing (Flame Retardant): The container and lid are made of flame-retardant ABS plastic in accordance with the standard UL94 V-0. The material self-extinguishes in the event of fire and prevents flaming dripping – a must for insurance protection in many server rooms.
- SWL+ High Rate Performance: The designation "2450" stands for the optimised power output (watts per block). Compared to standard batteries with 80 Ah, this block can deliver significantly more energy for a short time to reliably absorb voltage peaks during a power failure.
- Capacity 80 Ah: With 80 Ah (nominal value), the battery offers a solid energy reserve. It closes the gap between 75Ah and 90Ah blocks and offers an optimal balance between runtime and footprint.
- Eurobat "Very Long Life": Classified for a service life of 12+ years (design life up to 15 years). This ensures planning reliability and low operating costs (TCO) over the entire service life of the system.
- Maintenance-free & leak-proof: Thanks to the latest VRLA-AGM technology the electrolyte is bound in the glass mat. The battery is sealed, does not gas under normal operation, and does not require topping up with water.
- HT Element X technology: The special alloy of the grid plates minimises internal corrosion and makes the battery more resistant to ageing, even during continuous float charge operation.
Areas of application
The SWL+2450FR is the standard for large, safety-critical systems:
- Data centres (Data Center): Maximum power with maximum fire protection.
- UPS systems (UPS): Ideal for systems with short to medium bridging times at high load.
- Safety lighting: Central battery systems (ZSV) according to VDE 0108 / EN 50171.
- Telecommunications: Switching centres and critical network nodes.
- Energy supplier: Control technology and switchgear.
Installation & safety instructions
- Note weight: With approximately 25 kg the block is heavy. When populating battery cabinets, use suitable lifting aids and pay attention to the floor load of the rack.
- Tightening torque: The M6 terminal bolts must be tightened to 4.8 Nm. A correct fit is essential to avoid transition resistance and heat build-up.
- Installation position: Standing or lying on the long side possible (not upside down).
- Ventilation: Battery rooms must be ventilated in accordance with EN 50272-2 to remove hydrogen that may be generated in the event of a fault (overcharging).

FAQs about the Yuasa SWL+2450FR
What is the difference between 80 Ah and "2450"?
This is the difference between energy and power:
- 80 Ah (energy): How long the battery lasts at low current (tank capacity).
- 2450 (power): How much power (watts) the battery can immediately and briefly deliver (engine output). For UPS systems, the value "2450" is often more important than the pure Ah, as the battery has to supply an extremely high current within a few minutes.
How can I recognise the FR version?
The "FR" in the name and the inscription "UL94 V-0" on the housing are decisive. Visually, FR housings from Yuasa are often grey (standard is often black), but always rely on the nameplate. In public buildings, FR is often compulsory.
Can I use the SWL+2450FR as a replacement for a 75Ah battery?
Yes. The dimensions (approx. 350mm length) are usually identical to the standard 75Ah blocks (e.g. NPL78-12). By replacing, you get an upgrade to 80 Ah and higher high-current capacity without having to modify the cabinet.
