The Yuasa SWL+1950FR is the high-end solution for safety-critical UPS applications. It combines the increased power density of the SWL+ Series (74 Ah instead of the usual 65–70 Ah) with a flame-retardant housing of the highest fire protection class (UL94 V-0).

This battery has been specially designed for environments where fire safety regulations (e.g. in public buildings, airports, or data centres) and maximum reliability (Very Long Life) must go hand in hand. Thanks to the patented HT Element X technology and hybrid pure lead plates, this 12V block achieves a service life of up to 15 years.

Highlights at a glance

  • FR safety housing (Flame Retardant): The container and cover are made of flame-retardant ABS plastic as per UL94 V-0. The material self-extinguishes in the event of fire and prevents dripping—a mandatory requirement for many insurance companies in the data centre environment.
  • SWL+ performance upgrade (74 Ah): With 74 Ah (C20), this block provides significantly more energy than standard batteries of the same size (like the SWL1850). You get more runtime from the same footprint.
  • Eurobat "Very Long Life": Classified for a useful life of 12+ years (Design Life up to 15 years). This drastically reduces the TCO (Total Cost of Ownership), as replacement intervals are extended.
  • HT Element X Alloy™: This exclusive lead alloy minimises internal corrosion and makes the battery more resistant to higher operating temperatures, which extends the real service life in switch cabinets.
  • Hybrid pure lead technology: By reducing the internal resistance, the battery charges faster (Fast Recharge) and delivers higher discharge currents without voltage drop.
  • Completely maintenance-free: VRLA-AGM technology with internal gas recombination (>99%). No water refilling, no leakage, no dangerous goods restrictions (according to IATA).

Installation & safety instructions

  • Tightening torque: The M6 terminal studs must be tightened to 4.8 Nm. A correct fit is essential at high currents (up to 800A short-circuit current) to prevent heat developing at the terminal.
  • Installation position: The AGM technique allows operation standing upright or horizontal on the long side.
  • Ventilation: Even with VRLA batteries, ventilation in accordance with EN 50272-2 must be ensured.
  • Charging voltage: 2.275 V/cell ±1% at 20°C (equals 13.65 V block voltage).

FAQs about Yuasa SWL+1950FR

What is the difference to the normal SWL1850?

There are three main differences:

  1. Capacity: SWL+1950FR has 74 Ah, the SWL1850 has only approx. 66 Ah.
  2. Service life: SWL+ series lasts 12+ years, standard SWL lasts 10–12 years.
  3. Safety: The "FR" version always has the UL94 V-0 housing, the standard version often only UL94 HB.

Why is "FR" (Flame Retardant) so important?

In server rooms, the fire load density is extremely high. A battery fire could have catastrophic consequences. FR plastics prevent the battery itself from becoming an ignition source for the environment or propagating a fire. Many insurance companies require this explicitly.

Can I use this battery as a replacement for a 65Ah battery?

Yes, absolutely. Since the dimensions (350x166x174 mm) are standardised, the SWL+1950FR fits mechanically in the same space as an old 65Ah or 70Ah battery. Thus you get a performance upgrade (longer bridging time) without any conversion costs.
