Yuasa SWL+1200 Industrial VRLA battery - 12V / 40.6Ah (High Performance)

The Yuasa SWL+1200 (often also referred to as SWL1200 or SWL Plus) is the Premium further development of the proven SWL1100. As part of the SWL+ Series this battery offers an extremely high energy density paired with a significantly extended service life (Very Long Life).

With a capacity of 40.6 Ah and state-of-the-art hybrid pure lead technology this 12V battery is specially designed for critical UPS systems (uninterruptible power supply), where reliability and long maintenance intervals are of paramount importance. Thanks to VRLA-AGM technology, it is completely maintenance-free and leak-proof.

Technology & advantages

The SWL+1200 is technically very different from standard batteries:

1. HT Element X Alloy: An exclusive alloy from Yuasa minimises corrosion of the positive plates, the main cause of battery aging.
2. AGM separator (Absorbent Glass Mat): The electrolyte is completely bound in glass fibre fleece. This allows installation in almost any position (except permanently upside down) and prevents acid stratification.
3. VRLA (Valve Regulated Lead Acid): Pressure relief valves regulate the gas pressure inside. When charged correctly, the gas recombines to form water – no topping up necessary.

Assembly & operation

• Charging voltage (standby): 2.275 V/cell (±1%) at 20°C. This corresponds to 13.65 V for the 12V block.
• Torque: The M5 terminal screws should be tightened with 2.5 Nm. Too tight can damage the thread in the lead post, too loose leads to contact resistance and heat.
• Storage: Thanks to low self-discharge (<3% per month) suitable for storage. A recharge (Refresh Charge) should be performed after 6 months at the latest to prevent sulphation.

FAQs about the Yuasa SWL+1200

What is the difference between the SWL1100 and the SWL+1200?

Both batteries have the same dimensions and almost identical capacity values (40.6 Ah). The difference lies in the service life:

• SWL1100: Eurobat "Long Life" (10-12 years).
• SWL+1200: Eurobat "Very Long Life" (12+ years / 15 years design life). The "+" version uses higher quality materials for an even longer service life in critical systems.

Can I install this battery horizontally?

Yes.

AGM technology binds the acid firmly in the fleece. There is no free liquid. You can install the battery standing or lying on its side. Only "upside down" mounting (terminals pointing downwards) is permanently not permitted, as this would impair the function of the safety valves.

Is the battery suitable for cyclical applications (e.g. wheelchair)?

Conditionally, but not recommended.

The SWL series is optimised for "float charge" (continuous charge/standby). It delivers extremely high currents, but is not designed for daily deep discharge and recharging (cycle operation). For wheelchairs or golf caddies it is better to use the Yuasa REC or NPC Series.
