The Yuasa YTX9-WC (commercially available as YTX9-BS when dry pre-charged, or YTX9 when factory-filled) is one of the absolute bestsellers in the motorcycle sector. It is the standard battery for countless mid-range motorcycles (600cc - 900cc), scooters and ATVs. With a capacity of 8 Ah (10h) or 8.4 Ah (20h) and a cold start current of 135 A (EN), it offers the perfect balance between compact size and sufficient starting power for inline-four sports bikes and single-cylinder enduros.

The YTX9-BS is found in almost every garage. It fits perfectly in the Kawasaki Z range (Z1000 up to 09, Z750, Z800), the Honda CBR 600 / 900 Fireblade, the KTM Duke (smaller models), or the Yamaha XJ6. Many scooters of 250-400cc also use this size as standard for secure starting.

FAQs about the Yuasa YTX9-WC

What is the difference to the YTX7A-BS?

Both batteries have the same base area (150 x 87 mm). The difference lies in the height and performance.

YTX7A-BS: 93 mm high (approx. 6 Ah).
YTX9-BS (your battery): 105 mm high (approx. 8 Ah). The YTX9 is 1.2 cm higher. If you have space above, the YTX9 often fits in holders for YTX7A and offers more power. Conversely, the YTX7A always fits in the holder for YTX9, but then needs to be underlaid.

What is the difference to the YT12A-BS?

This is an interesting upgrade! The YT12A-BS has exactly the same dimensions as the YTX9-BS (150x87x105 mm), but offers significantly more power (10 Ah and 175 A starting current). If you use a YTX9-BS and need more starting power (e.g. for a Suzuki Hayabusa or SV650), you can often easily switch to the more powerful (but more expensive) YT12A-BS.

What does YTX9-BS vs. YTX9-WC mean?

Technically the end product is identical.

BS (Bottle Supplied): Supplied dry with a separate acid pack. The customer must activate it.
WC (Wet Charged): Pre-filled and activated by the manufacturer. Ready for immediate installation. The WC version is more convenient, while the BS version can be stored longer as long as it hasn’t been filled.

Do I need to charge the battery?

Yes, even a "Wet Charged" battery can lose voltage during storage. Check the voltage before installation. If it is below 12.6 V, briefly connect it to a suitable motorcycle charger. This ensures you start the season with 100% power.
