The Yuasa YTX14-BS (often also known as YTX14 when factory-filled) is one of the most common standard starter batteries in the motorcycle sector. It provides reliable energy for a large number of medium-weight to heavy motorcycles, ATVs and scooters. With a capacity of 12 Ah (10h) or 12.6 Ah (20h) and a cold start current of 200 A (EN), it is the proven standard model that combines robustness with an excellent price-performance ratio.

The YTX14-BS is the “bread-and-butter” battery for many popular models. It is standard equipment for the BMW F800 series (GS/R/ST), the Honda VT 750 Shadow, the Suzuki DL 1000 V-Strom, the Kawasaki W650/W800 or various Piaggio scooters (e.g. Beverly 500). It reliably provides power for starting procedures and on-board electronics, without the need for the extreme performance peaks of the more expensive “H” version.

FAQs about the Yuasa YTX14-BS
What is the difference to the YTX14H-BS?
The dimensions are the same, but the performance is different.
- YTX14-BS (your battery): Standard model with 200 A starting current.
- YTX14H-BS (High Performance): Reinforced model with 240 A starting current. For normal applications, the YTX14-BS is perfectly adequate. If, however, you have starting problems in the cold or have a very high-compression engine, the H version is the upgrade.
What is the difference to the YTX12-BS?
The footprint is the same (150 x 87 mm), but the height is different.
- YTX12-BS: 130 mm high.
- YTX14-BS: 145 mm high. The YTX14 is 1.5 cm taller and has more capacity. It will only fit if there is enough room at the top of the battery box or the box is explicitly built for the 14 size.
Do I need to charge the battery?
With the BS version (acid pack included): Yes. After filling it has approx. 75-80% charge. A full charge before installation extends the lifespan significantly. With the factory-filled version (often “WC”): Check the voltage. Under 12.6 V, charging is required. Always use a charger for motorcycle AGM batteries.Properties
