The Yuasa YTB4L is a special upgrade model from the "Maintenance Free" series. It was developed to replace the high-maintenance YB4L-B (wet battery), which has been installed millions of times, 1:1 without having to forego the advantages of modern AGM technology. It combines the classic case format (121x71x93 mm) with leak-proof fleece technology.

Plug & Play upgrade: Has exactly the same dimensions as the old acid battery (YB4L-B), so it fits perfectly in the battery box of Vespa PX, Simson S51 (12V) or old Yamaha scooters, without leaving any "air".
100% maintenance-free: Unlike the YB4L-B, this battery never needs to be refilled with water. The battery is hermetically sealed (VRLA).
No acid handling: It is usually supplied "Wet Charged" (WC), i.e. filled and charged at the factory. No need to handle dangerous acid bottles.
Leak-proof: Thanks to AGM technology (bound electrolyte), no acid escapes, protecting the frame and exhaust of your classic vehicle from corrosion.
Longer service life: The sulphation brake and the closed design ensure that it survives longer periods of inactivity better than the open standard battery.

The modern solution for classics

The YTB4L is the insider tip for all riders of youngtimer scooters and mopeds. Anyone who has previously used the small YTX4L-BS as a replacement often had to use foam underneath, as this one is smaller (only 86 mm high). The YTB4L fills the box completely with its 93 mm height, so the retaining bracket or the rubber band fits as snugly as the original again.

FAQs about the Yuasa YTB4L

What is the difference to the YB4L-B?

The size is identical, but the technology is completely different.

YB4L-B: Open lead-acid battery with plugs. Must be maintained (water refilled) and has a vent hose.
YTB4L: Closed AGM battery. Must not be maintained, has no vent hose and is leak-proof. It is the technically superior upgrade.

What is the difference to the YTX4L-BS?

The difference lies in the overall height.

YTX4L-BS: Only 86 mm high (standard for modern scooters). In old scooters it often "wobbles" in the box.
YTB4L: 93 mm high (standard for old scooters). Sits firmly in the original YB4L-B holder.

Do I need a vent hose with the YTB4L?

No. As this is a sealed VRLA battery, no fumes are emitted during normal operation. The connection for the hose is missing because it is not needed. You can simply remove the old hose from your scooter or leave it hanging.

How do I charge this battery?

As it is an AGM battery, you should use a charger that is suitable for maintenance-free batteries (e.g. CTEK, Optimate). The charging voltage should be a maximum of 14.4 - 14.8 V. Old "railway" chargers made of sheet metal, which deliver uncontrolled high voltages, can damage (swell) this battery.
