Yuasa Motorbike battery YB12A-A (DC) 12V 12Ah
Description
Product information
The Yuasa YB12A-A (often with the suffix "DC" for Dry Charged / dry pre-charged) is a classic 12V lead-acid battery from the proven YuMicron series. With a capacity of 12 Ah and robust construction, it offers reliable starting power for a wide range of older motorcycles (e.g. Honda, Kawasaki, Yamaha classics). Thanks to the special "Sulphate Stop" technology, plate sulphation is inhibited, increasing service life, especially for vehicles that are used seasonally.
Highlights at a glance
- High-performance technology: The YuMicron design uses special thin separators to allow two additional plates per cell, increasing starting power by up to 30% compared to conventional batteries.
- Sulphate Stop: A chemical treatment of the plates significantly reduces sulphation and ensures a longer service life even when the battery is at a partial state of charge for longer periods.
- Dry pre-charged (DC): The battery is supplied dry (Dry Charged) and is only activated by filling it with the (usually included) acid pack, allowing storage without ageing before first use.
- Robust construction: A glass mat protects the plates from vibration damage, while the welded casing prevents leaks and corrosion.
- Maintainable: Classic design with sealing plugs makes it easy to check and top up the water level, ensuring maximum service life with proper care.

FAQs about the Yuasa YB12A-A
What does the suffix "DC" or "ADC" mean?
"DC" stands for Dry Charged (dry pre-charged). This means that the battery contains no acid as delivered. It can be stored indefinitely when dry. It is only activated when the battery acid is filled in. "ADC" is used by some dealers as an abbreviation for "Acid Dry Charged" (acid pack included).
Do I need to charge the battery before installation?
Yes. After filling with acid, the battery should rest for at least 30–60 minutes ("outgassing"). For optimum service life and full starting power it is strongly recommended to fully charge it afterwards with a suitable motorcycle charger before installation in the vehicle.
Will this battery fit my motorcycle if I have an acid sensor?
The YB12A-A is the standard battery for many motorcycles of the 80s and 90s (e.g. Honda VF, VFR, CB models). Many of these batteries have the appropriate connection, or the ability to insert the original sensor of the motorcycle into one of the cells (often the middle cell, stopper is replaced by the sensor). Check before purchase whether your sensor connector is compatible.
Where is the positive terminal?
When you look at the battery from the front (the side with the terminals), the positive terminal is on the left and the negative terminal is on the right. The vent is usually also located on the left.Properties
