Yuasa Lead-acid battery with 12V and 4Ah - NP4-12
Description
Product information
The Yuasa NP4-12 is a compact and reliable VRLA lead-acid battery with a nominal voltage of 12 volts and a capacity of 4 Ah. Thanks to its maintenance-free technology, flexible installation options and robust design, the battery is ideal for emergency power systems, safety-related applications and industrial electronics.
Highlights at a glance
- Reliable performance: 4 Ah capacity at 12 V (20h rate), 3.7 Ah at 10h rate.
- Compact format: Only 90 × 70 × 106 mm – ideal for confined installation spaces.
- Flexible installation: Can be operated in almost any position, except permanently upside down.
- Safe operation: With self-closing low-pressure vent valves.
- Maintenance-free: Valve-regulated VRLA technology – no topping up necessary.
- Long service life: EUROBAT classification “Standard Commercial” (3 to 5 years).
Compact energy source for a wide range of applications
With a capacity of 4 Ah at 20-hour discharge (up to 1.75 V/cell), the NP4-12 supplies constant energy even in tight spaces. For 10-hour discharge up to 1.8 V/cell, it delivers 3.7 Ah. The battery is ideal for systems with moderate current requirements and short-term load peaks of up to 120 A for one second.
Robust technology with ISO-certified quality
The NP4-12 is impressive with a long service life of up to 5 years at 20 °C and is ISO 9001 certified. Its low self-discharge rate of around 3 % per month ensures reliable operational readiness, even after prolonged storage.
The casing is made of robust ABS plastic (UL94:HB) and is optionally available in a flame-retardant version (UL94:V0). With an impedance of 40 mΩ (at 1 kHz), the battery offers solid performance and safety in operation.
Easy handling and safe operation
The NP4-12 is equipped with Faston plug-in terminals (4.75 mm) and can be quickly and easily integrated into existing systems. Installation is possible in any position, except for permanently upside-down mounting.
Each cell has a low-pressure vent valve for controlled gas pressure regulation. The maximum charging current in cyclic use is 1 A. There is no limit for the float charge. The recommended charging voltage is:
- 13.65 V (±1 %) in float operation
- 14.5 V (±3 %) in cyclic use

The battery is suitable for:
- Security and alarm systems
- UPS and emergency power systems
- Medical devices
- Control and measurement technology
- Lighting systems
What safety functions does the NP4-12 provide?
It has self-closing low-pressure vent valves for safe pressure regulation and a robust casing – optionally in a flame-retardant design.
How high is the self-discharge?
The self-discharge is about 3 % per month at 20 °C, which enables reliable operation even after prolonged storage.
What capacity and energy does it really deliver?
- Nominal capacity: 4 Ah at 20-hour discharge (20 HR)
- 10-hour rate (higher current): approx. 3.7 Ah at 1.8 V/cell and 20 °C
- Energy content corresponds to approx. 48 Wh (12 V × 4 Ah) or about 44 Wh at 10-HR discharge
How long does the battery last in standby or cyclic operation?
- In float/standby operation: design life of 3–5 years according to EUROBAT standard
- In cyclic operation: over 1,000 cycles possible, depending on depth of discharge and ambient temperature
How should the NP 4-12 be charged correctly (float vs. cycle)?
- Float charge voltage (20 °C): approx. 13.65 V block (2.275 V/cell), temperature compensation −3 mV/cell/°C
- Cyclic or boost charge: approx. 14.5 V block (2.42 V/cell), temperature compensation −4 mV/cell/°C
- For cyclic use: maximum charging current 1 A (~0.25 C)
