Yuasa High performance motorbike battery YTZ12S-WC / YTZ12S 12V 11Ah (11,6Ah) (AGM maintenance-free)
Description
Product information
The Yuasa YTZ12S (in the "WC" version for "Wet Charged") is a high-performance premium class battery that offers maximum energy density. Although it is significantly flatter than a standard YTX12 battery, it delivers more starting power and capacity. With 11 Ah (10h) or 11.6 Ah (20h) and a strong cold start current of 210 A (EN), it is the powerhouse for modern touring motorcycles and adventure bikes which have plenty of space for electronics but little room for the battery. As it is factory-filled and sealed, it is ready for immediate use and extremely safe against leakage.
Highlights at a glance
- High Performance Power: Despite its more compact dimensions it delivers 210 A starting current, more energy than the larger standard battery YTX12-BS (180 A), ideal for modern fuel-injected engines.
- Factory Activated (WC): The battery is delivered from the factory filled, charged and hermetically sealed. It is "plug & play"-ready and requires no handling with acid packs.
- Compact height: With only 110 mm height it is 2 cm flatter than a standard 12-series battery, which allows designers to lower the centre of gravity of the motorcycle.
- Extended installation angle: As it is sealed at the factory and has no free acid chambers, installation at an angle (necessary for many modern sports and enduro bikes) is no problem.
- AGM technology: The electrolyte is completely bound in the glass fleece, which makes it extremely vibration-proof – perfect for touring enduros like the Yamaha Super Ténéré.
- Long service life: The special plate design of the YTZ series ensures very low self-discharge and high cycle stability.
The standard for Honda NC & Yamaha Tenere
The YTZ12S is a very frequently installed original equipment battery. It is the standard for the popular Honda NC 700 / 750 series (incl. Integra scooter), the Honda VFR 800 (VTEC), the Honda Forza 300 as well as the large Yamaha XT1200Z Super Ténéré. Also various BMW models (such as early S1000RR) use this compact power cell.

FAQs about Yuasa YTZ12S-WC
What is the difference to the YTX12-BS?
The footprint is the same (150 x 87 mm), but the height and performance differ massively.
- YTX12-BS (Standard): 130 mm high, 180 A starting current.
- YTZ12S (High Perf.): 110 mm high, 210 A starting current. The YTZ12S is 2 cm flatter, but more powerful. You can often replace a YTX12-BS with a YTZ12S (if you allow for the height) to have more power. Conversely, the high YTX12-BS almost never fits in a vehicle that is designed for the flat YTZ12S (seat will not close).
What is the difference to the YTZ14S?
That is the special feature of the YTZ series: The YTZ12S and the YTZ14S have exactly the same dimensions (150x87x110 mm).
- YTZ12S: 11 Ah / 210 A.
- YTZ14S: 11.8 Ah / 230 A. The YTZ14S is the even stronger version in the same enclosure. You can easily upgrade to the YTZ14S if you want maximum starting power (e.g. for winter use or lots of accessories).
What does "WC" mean?
"WC" stands for "Wet Charged". The battery was filled and sealed at the factory. You don't have to fill in any acid or install a sealing strip. Simply connect the terminals and set off (recommended to check the voltage beforehand).
How do I charge this battery?
As the YTZ series is very compact, it is sensitive to incorrect charging. Use a smart charger for AGM batteries (e.g. CTEK, NOCO, Optimate). Avoid chargers with desulphation mode, which generates high voltage spikes (> 15V), as this could open the VRLA valves and dry out the battery.
