The Yuasa U1R (often also known as U1-9 or simply U1R-330 called) is a powerful special battery for ride-on mowers, lawn tractors and small municipal vehicles. It corresponds to the standardised BCI case size "U1", which is used in almost all garden vehicles worldwide. The "R" in the designation stands for "Reverse" and means that the positive terminal is on the right side. SMF technology (Sealed Maintenance Free) makes it completely maintenance-free and leak-proof, while the high cold-start current of 330 A also reliably starts two-cylinder engines.

The power pack for John Deere & MTD

The U1R is the typical battery for many John Deere lawn tractors (be sure to check the polarity here, plus is often required on the right), MTD, Cub Cadet, Toro and Husqvarna models. It provides reliable power to start petrol engines up to approx. 25 hp. Thanks to the calcium technology, it has a lower self-discharge than conventional batteries, which is advantageous for the often long standing times of garden tools.

FAQs about the Yuasa U1R

What is the difference between U1 and U1R?

This is the most important difference when buying! The case size is the same, but the polarity is reversed.

  • U1 (or U1L): Positive terminal is left.
  • U1R (your battery): Positive terminal is right. The cables in lawn tractors are usually extremely short and measured exactly. If you buy the wrong polarity, the cables will not reach the connections. Look at your old battery: Where is the red cable (+) connected?

What should I do in winter?

Garden batteries usually die in winter. If the mower sits from October to March, the battery will discharge and fail (sulphation). Important: Remove the battery in winter, store it frost-free and recharge it every 2 months with a charger (e.g. CTEK). This way it will last for many years.

Do the connections fit?

The Yuasa U1R has so-called "Lug Terminals" (flat flags with a hole). This is the standard for US and European mowers. You simply screw the ring terminals of the vehicle cables to the battery terminals using a screw and nut through the hole.

Is the battery filled?

Yes, the SMF version (Sealed Maintenance Free) comes to you already filled, charged and sealed. You do not need to fill in any acid. Just install and mow.
