The Yuasa YBX7115 is a powerful EFB battery (Enhanced Flooded Battery) in the large standard L4 case (315 mm length, 190 mm height). It is the start-stop counterpart to the conventional YBX5115. While most EFB batteries of this length are flat (175 mm, like the YBX7110), the YBX7115 fully utilises the installation height (190 mm). It is designed for vehicles with start-stop systems that require high capacity and are mechanically designed for the tall format.

The EFB Giant in L4 Format

The YBX7115 is a rather rare type, as many manufacturers use the flat design (175 mm) for 315 mm length or switch to AGM (95 Ah). However, if your vehicle requires an EFB battery, the battery compartment is 31.5 cm long and there is enough space at the top (19 cm), the YBX7115 is the perfect choice to replace the original battery 1:1 without having to convert to AGM.

What is the difference compared to the YBX7110?

Both are EFB batteries for start-stop use and both are 315 mm long. The key difference is the height:

• YBX7110: 175 mm high (Flat / LB4).
• YBX7115: 190 mm high (Tall / L4). Be sure to measure the height of your old battery. If there is space for 190 mm, the YBX7115 often offers a little more performance. However, if the bracket is designed for 175 mm, the YBX7115 will not fit.

Can I use this battery instead of an AGM battery?

No. If your vehicle (e.g. BMW 5 Series, Audi A6) has an AGM battery of this size (L4, usually 80Ah or 92Ah AGM), you should stick with AGM (YBX9000 series). The YBX7115 is an EFB battery and is intended for vehicles without recuperation (brake energy recovery).

Why does my old battery say 85Ah and this one 80Ah?

The rated capacities change with further development of internal plate technology (thicker plates for greater cycle resistance take up more volume). A modern 80Ah EFB is often more powerful than an older 85Ah EFB. The YBX7115 is the official successor for this class.

Do I need to initialise (teach) the battery?

Yes. As this is a start-stop vehicle, a battery management system (BMS) is present. This must be adjusted or reset to the new battery (capacity and technology) (“Register battery replacement”).
