Description

Product information

The Vision 6FM40X is a robust, cycle-resistant lead-acid battery (VRLA) with a nominal voltage of 12 volts and a capacity of 40 ampere-hours. It is specially designed for demanding applications with recurring charge and discharge cycles. Thanks to the AGM technology (Absorbent Glass Mat), this battery offers a reliable, leak-proof and long-lasting power supply. It is the ideal solution for systems that require high cycle resistance, deep discharges and long service life, and is excellently suited for both cyclic and standby operation.

Highlights at a glance

  • Cycle-resistant: Developed for a high number of charge and discharge cycles, significantly extending service life compared to conventional VRLA batteries.
  • High capacity: 40 Ah at 12 V for long-lasting energy supply.
  • Maintenance-free: Thanks to leak-proof AGM technology with over 99% gas recombination.
  • Low self-discharge: Only about 3% capacity loss per month at 20°C, allowing long-term storage.
  • Flexible installation: Operation is possible in different positions, except for permanent overhead installation.
  • Long-lasting: Service life of up to 10 years in the design life.

Strong performance for cyclic applications

The 6FM40X reliably supplies power in recurring discharge cycles. With a capacity of 40 Ah during a 10-hour discharge, this battery is an excellent choice for mobile applications and systems with high energy demand. Its special construction, which uses lead-calcium-tin alloys, enables high cycle durability and excellent recovery after deep discharge.

Robust technology for demanding environments

Thanks to the VRLA technology with AGM system, the 6FM40X is absolutely maintenance-free and leak-proof. The electrolyte is securely bound in a glass fibre fleece, enabling safe handling and operation in any position. The battery features self-sealing low-pressure relief valves to ensure pressure equalisation within the cells. The housing is made of robust ABS plastic, which is impact and break-resistant and can also be supplied in a flame-retardant version (UL94:V0) on request. The low self-discharge of about 3% per month allows long-term storage while maintaining high availability.

FAQs about the VISION 6FM40X lead-acid battery

For which applications is the 6FM40X best suited?

This battery was specially developed for cyclic applications where the battery is regularly discharged and recharged. It is ideal as the main power source for electric vehicles such as wheelchairs and golf caddies, as well as for use in solar systems, telecommunications systems and mobile measuring devices. Furthermore, the battery has VdS approval, so it is also optimally suited for safety-critical applications such as fire and intruder alarm systems.

What does "cycle-resistant" mean?

A cycle-resistant battery is specially designed to withstand a high number of charge and discharge cycles without significantly losing its capacity or service life. This distinguishes it from conventional lead-acid batteries, which are more designed for standby operation.

How do I charge the battery correctly?

We recommend using a charger designed for AGM batteries with a capacity of 40 Ah. Please observe the charging voltages recommended by the manufacturer: for float charging (standby operation) 13.6 V to 13.8 V and for cyclic charging (boost operation) 14.4 V to 14.7 V. Excessive charging current can shorten the service life of the battery.

How long does the 6FM40X battery last?

The battery life expectancy is up to 10 years at 20°C in design life. However, actual life strongly depends on individual operating conditions, depth of discharge and ambient temperature.

These batteries are designed with thinner lead plates and a larger active surface area, which reduces the internal resistance. As a result, they can deliver significantly higher currents for a short time than standard batteries of the same capacity, which is crucial for starting motors or operating UPS systems. What is the difference to a standard 10 year battery?Although both have a long service life in standby operation, the CP12240HX is specially optimised for high performance. A standard long-life battery is designed for the longest possible service life at lower discharge currents. The HX type is the first choice when maximum power output is needed in the first minutes of a power failure. What charging voltage is correct for this battery? For maximum service life in standby operation, the float charge voltage at 20°C should be between 13.5 V and 13.8 V (2.25 V to 2.30 V per cell). Temperature compensation is strongly recommended for optimal battery maintenance. Is the battery maintenance-free?Yes, thanks to the sealed AGM technology, the battery is completely maintenance-free. No topping up with water is required and it can be safely operated in equipment and indoors. Can I use this battery for a solar system?Although the battery would technically work, it is not ideal for this purpose. It is optimised for standby operation. For solar applications that require daily charge and discharge cycles, we recommend cycle-resistant batteries (recognisable by the "DX" at Vision), as these achieve a significantly longer service life in cyclic operation.
