Varta Silver oxide watch battery V397 / SR726SW 1.55 V
Description
Product information
The Varta V397, internationally known as SR726SW (or SR59SW), is a premium silver oxide button cell developed as a "low drain" specialist for classic analogue watches. Its entire cell chemistry is designed for minimal but constant energy delivery over as long a period as possible. With its stable voltage of 1.55 V and focus on longevity, it is the perfect choice for high-quality and compact wristwatches without extra features.
Highlights at a glance
- Premium quality: High-quality silver oxide technology for maximum reliability.
- Low drain optimised: Perfect for the low, constant energy needs of analogue watches.
- Maximum lifespan: Developed for a service life of several years in simple watches.
- Highest timekeeping precision: Stable voltage of 1.55 V secures the accuracy of the movement.
- Tested quality: High leak resistance to protect your valuable timepiece.
Precision energy for compact analogue watches
The Varta V397 is the ideal energy source for a wide range of classic analogue watches, especially for models with smaller movements. Its strength lies in reliably and consistently providing the energy needed to drive the hands for years. It is the first choice for all watches where maximum battery life with low power consumption is important.
Reliable silver oxide technology (Low Drain)
The "Low Drain" technology of the V397 focuses on extremely low self-discharge and highest efficiency at minimum load. Unlike "High Drain" batteries, which are designed for short-term performance peaks, longevity is the decisive feature here. This ensures that your watch keeps running accurately for as long as possible without needing a battery change.
Efficiency and safety with system
Every Varta battery undergoes strict quality control to guarantee maximum performance and safety. The V397 is optimally protected against leakage by its high-quality construction and thus preserves your valuable movement from damage. The secure individual packaging also prevents short-circuiting and protects the cell from environmental influences until its use.

FAQs about the Varta V397 / SR726SW button cell
What do the designations SR726SW, SR59SW or 397 mean?
These are designations for the same battery size. SR726SW is the most common international IEC standard, whereby "S" stands for silver oxide, "R" for round shape, "726" for the dimensions (7.9 mm x 2.6 mm) and "SW" for "Low Drain". SR59SW is an older standard for the same size. The 397 is the specific type number from Varta.
What is the difference to the High Drain version V396 / SR726W?
The two batteries are optimised for different purposes. The V397 (Low Drain) is made for devices with low, constant power consumption like simple analogue watches and lasts longest in these. The V396 (High Drain) is designed for devices with a briefly high current requirement (e.g. light, sound) and would not last as long in a simple analogue watch as the V397.
Can I use this battery in a watch with lighting or alarm?
This is strongly discouraged. The V397 is not designed to supply the high current peaks required for such features. This can cause malfunctions (e.g. a flickering light) and drastically shorten the battery’s lifespan. For such watches, the high-drain variant V396 is the correct choice.
How should this button cell be disposed of?
Button cells must not be disposed of with household waste. Please take the empty battery to the collection points provided by retailers or municipal recycling centres to ensure proper environmental disposal.
