Varta lithium battery CR2/3AA 3V 1.35Ah with axial terminals

Description

Product information

The VARTA CR2/3AA with axial connection wires is a high-performance, industrially assembled 3-volt lithium primary battery. It has been developed for professional applications that require an extremely durable and reliable energy source with a connection type optimised for printed circuit board mounting. Based on lithium manganese dioxide technology (Li-MnO2), it offers high energy density, extremely low self-discharge and is the ideal energy source for the initial equipment (OEM) of long-lasting and low-maintenance electronic devices.

Highlights at a glance

  • Industrial assembly: Equipped with robust, axial connection wires for simple and secure PCB mounting.
  • Extreme longevity: Up to 10 years storage due to extremely low self-discharge.
  • High energy density: Maximum energy in a compact form for long-lasting autonomy.
  • Wide temperature range: Reliable performance under extreme conditions from -40 °C to +85 °C.
  • High capacity: 1.35 Ah for energy-intensive applications requiring long runtimes.

Reliable energy for long-term applications

The assembled VARTA CR2/3AA is the preferred energy source for "fit and forget" applications, where the battery is permanently soldered onto a printed circuit board. Its main area of application is supplying security sensors, smart meters (smart metering), industrial control systems (PLC), as well as providing backup for memory modules (SRAM/CMOS backup). It is the optimum solution for all self-sufficient, wireless devices where maximum reliability is required.

Superior lithium manganese dioxide technology

Lithium manganese dioxide technology (Li-MnO2) is the key to this cell’s exceptional performance. It enables a high nominal voltage of 3 volts and an extremely low self-discharge of less than 1% per year at room temperature. This guarantees maximum readiness even after many years in storage. The technology is also known for its high safety and reliability in industrial environments.

Developed for industrial integration

As an industrially pre-assembled cell, the CR2/3AA with axial connections is optimised for efficient and reliable machine or manual mounting of printed circuit boards. The robust connection wires ensure a permanently secure and vibration-resistant soldered connection. With this cell, VARTA offers developers and manufacturers a reliable and easy-to-integrate platform for developing long-lasting and low-maintenance products.

FAQs about the VARTA lithium battery CR2/3AA with axial connections

What does "axial connections" mean?

Axial connections are connecting wires that are led out from the centre of the two flat ends (poles) of the cylindrical cell, i.e. along the longitudinal axis of the battery. This configuration is ideal for horizontal mounting and for inserting the wires through holes in a printed circuit board (Through-Hole Technology, THT).

What is the main advantage of this lithium battery?

The key advantage is the extremely long service and storage life of up to 10 years, combined with a very wide operating temperature range. The already attached connection wires additionally simplify the manufacturing process as there is no longer any need for separate spot welding of contacts.

Is this battery rechargeable?

No. This is a lithium primary battery. Under no circumstances should it be attempted to recharge it. Attempting to charge is extremely dangerous and can result in fire or explosion.

For which soldering methods is this assembled cell suitable?

This cell is intended for hand and wave soldering. Use in the reflow soldering process is not recommended as the high temperatures can damage the cell. Please refer to the manufacturer’s processing instructions for details.

How should this battery be disposed of?

Batteries must not be disposed of as household waste. As an industrial battery, it is subject to the requirements of the Battery Act. Please take the empty battery to the designated industrial or municipal collection points to ensure proper and environmentally friendly recycling.
