The Ultralife UHE-ER14505-H is a primary lithium battery optimized for capacity in the widely used AA format (Mignon). It belongs to the "High Energy" series and, unlike the previously discussed UHR series, uses the Bobbin technology (bobbin construction). This means it is not designed for high currents, but for maximum energy density and extremely long running times. It is the ideal "long-term battery" for devices that need to be supplied with low currents for years without requiring a battery change.

What is the key difference to the UHR-ER14505?

This determines whether your device works or fails:

  • UHE (your battery): "Energy" (bobbin). High capacity (2.4 Ah), but low current. Ideal for sensors that only measure data or retain memory.
  • UHR (Spiral): "Power" (spiral). Less capacity (2.0 Ah), but high current. Necessary for GSM/LTE modules or motors. If you insert the UHE into a GPS tracker with GSM modem, the voltage will collapse while sending.

Can I use it as a replacement for normal AA batteries?

Warning: No! Normal AA batteries have 1.5 volts. This battery has 3.6 volts. That's more than double! If you put this in a remote control, a wall clock or a toy, you'll destroy the device immediately. It may fit mechanically, but it is not electrically compatible.

What is passivation?

When these batteries are stored for a long time, a protective layer forms inside (passivation). This is good for durability (no self-discharge), but when you put the battery into operation, the voltage may be low for a few milliseconds before it jumps to 3.6 V. Some sensitive devices then incorrectly display "battery low".

Is the battery rechargeable?

No. It is a primary battery. Rechargeable lithium batteries in AA size usually have 3.7 V (Li-Ion 14500) or 1.2 V (NiMH) and a completely different chemistry. This cell must not be charged.
