The Ultralife UHE-ER14505-H is a primary lithium battery optimised for capacity in the widely used AA format (Mignon). It is part of the "High Energy" line and, unlike the previously discussed UHR line, uses the bobbin technology (coil construction). This means it is not designed for high currents but for maximum energy density and extremely long operating times. It is the ideal "long-term battery" for devices that need to be supplied with low currents over many years, without the need for a battery replacement.

What is the crucial difference to the UHR-ER14505?

This is what determines whether your device works or fails:

  • UHE (your battery): "Energy" (bobbin). High capacity (2.4 Ah), but low current. Ideal for sensors that only measure data or retain memory.
  • UHR (spiral): "Power" (spiral). Lower capacity (2.0 Ah), but high current. Needed for GSM/LTE modules or motors. If you plug the UHE into a GPS tracker with a GSM modem, the voltage drops during transmission.

Can I use it as a replacement for standard AA batteries?

Warning: No! Standard AA batteries have 1.5 volts. This battery has 3.6 volts. That's more than double! If you insert these into a remote control, wall clock or toy, you will destroy the device immediately. While it fits mechanically, it is not electrically compatible.

What is passivation?

When these batteries are stored for a long time, a protective layer forms inside (passivation). This is good for shelf life (no self-discharge), but when you start using the battery, the voltage may briefly sag for a few milliseconds before jumping to 3.6 V. Some sensitive devices then incorrectly report "battery empty".

Is the battery rechargeable?

No. It is a primary battery. Rechargeable lithium batteries in AA size usually have 3.7 V (Li-Ion 14500) or 1.2 V (NiMH) and a completely different chemistry. This cell must not be charged.
