Ultralife High Energy Lithium Battery UHE-ER14250-H 3.6V 1.2Ah (1/2 AA Bobbin)
Description
Product information
The Ultralife UHE-ER14250-H is a compact primary lithium battery in the 1/2 AA format (half AA size). It belongs to the “High Energy” series and uses bobbin technology for maximum energy density in the smallest space. With a voltage of 3.6 V and a capacity of 1.2 Ah, it is the worldwide standard for memory backup on computer mainboards and in industrial control systems. It features an extremely long service life and high reliability with low discharge currents.
Highlights at a glance
- Compact 1/2 AA format: At just 25 mm high, it is exactly half as long as a standard AA battery with the same diameter (14.5 mm).
- High energy density: Despite its small size, it delivers 1.2 Ah capacity, enough for years of operation in backup applications.
- Bobbin technology: The internal construction is optimised for low self-discharge (< 2 % per year), making it ideal for devices that are always connected to the mains and only need backup in case of power failure.
- Constant 3.6V voltage: Delivers a stable voltage, which is much higher than alkaline (1.5V) or lithium-manganese batteries (3.0V).
- Extreme temperature range: Operates safely between -55 °C and +85 °C, qualifying it for use in outdoor sensors or heated switch cabinets.
- Long service life: Designed for up to 10 years of service in low-power applications.
The standard for mainboards & dive computers
The UHE-ER14250-H (often also called LS14250 by Saft or SL-750 by Tadiran) is the classic “BIOS battery” for industrial computer mainboards, older Apple Macintosh models (G3/G4/G5) and PLC control systems (Siemens S5/S7 backup). This format is also frequently used in professional dive computers, dog collars (for location purposes) and alarm system sensors are used.

FAQs for Ultralife UHE-ER14250-H
What does "1/2 AA" mean?
Half length: The designation refers purely to the mechanical size. The battery has the same diameter as an ordinary AA battery (14.5 mm), but is only half as long (approx. 25 mm). It therefore does not fit into normal AA compartments.
Can I replace it with a CR14250?
Be careful with the voltage: A CR14250 (lithium-manganese) usually has 3.0 volts. The ER14250 (like this Ultralife) has 3.6 volts. In many cases (e.g. dive computers) the difference is acceptable, but some sensitive electronics absolutely require the correct voltage. Check the manual of your device.
Is the battery rechargeable?
No. This is a primary battery. Never attempt to recharge it. If you are looking for a rechargeable in this size, you usually need a LiFePO4 battery (3.2 V) or Li-Ion (3.7 V) in size 14250, which require a special charger.
Is the battery available with solder tags?
Yes. As these batteries are often permanently mounted on circuit boards (e.g. in industrial controls), they are often available with different connection types:
- Standard: Flat terminals for placement in holders.
- Axial: One wire comes out at the top and one at the bottom (for horizontal installation).
- Print/Tags: 2 or 3 pins on the underside for direct soldering. Make sure you choose the connection type you need when purchasing.
