Powerful in a wide range of applications

The Tadiran SL-361S was specifically developed for applications where both miniaturisation and improved power output are crucial. Its primary areas of use include compact wireless sensors, miniaturised GPS trackers, medical monitoring devices, and other professional electronics that regularly require transmission pulses in confined spaces. It is the perfect choice for all devices that operate autonomously for years and require periodic power for transmission or measurement tasks.

Engineered for maximum safety and efficiency

The safety and longevity of the SL-361S are based on Tadiran’s proven construction. The cell features a hermetic glass-metal seal that reliably prevents electrolyte leakage. The inorganic electrolyte used is non-flammable and ensures a high degree of inherent safety. Each cell is designed to deliver its energy consistently and safely over a very long period, minimising maintenance costs and reducing the total operating costs for your application.

iXtra series: The technology for higher performance

The iXtra series from Tadiran is designed to provide improved voltage stability under load. Compared to the standard series (SL-700), which is optimised for minimal continuous currents, the SL-300 series shows better performance with medium load requirements and pulse currents. The passivation effect is thereby overcome more quickly, leading to more stable energy supply in applications that regularly “wake up” to perform tasks.

FAQs about this Tadiran battery

What is the difference between the SL-300 (iXtra) and the SL-700 series?

The SL-300 (iXtra) series, to which this cell belongs, is optimised for applications with moderate current requirements (e.g. wireless sensors). It offers more stable voltage under load. The SL-700 series, on the other hand, is designed for absolute long-term use with minimal continuous current, such as in pure memory backup applications.

For which applications is this battery type suitable?

This battery type is ideal for miniaturised electronics requiring a long service life, but which also regularly need power for functions such as transmitting data. Examples include compact wireless sensors, small medical devices, and GPS trackers.

H3: Does this model have solder lugs or wires?

No, the SL-361S model is the standard version with normal battery contacts and is intended for use in a suitable 2/3 AA battery holder. For direct installation, Tadiran also offers variants of this cell type with various solder lugs.

H3: Is this battery rechargeable?

No, this is a primary lithium battery and must never be recharged under any circumstances. Attempting to charge the cell is dangerous and may result in overheating, leakage, or bursting of the cell.

What does the passivation effect mean for this battery?

After extended storage, a protective layer forms on the lithium surface which minimises self-discharge. The iXtra series is designed so that this layer is removed more quickly and with less voltage drop under load than in the SL-700 series, making it advantageous for applications with regular current pulses.

Tadiran SL-2780S PulsesPlus battery D with 3.6 V and 16.5 Ah

The Tadiran SL-2780S is a revolutionary PulsesPlus hybrid battery in the standard size D (Mono). It was developed for demanding long-term applications that require both a very high energy reserve and the ability to deliver high current pulses. The system combines a long-lasting lithium thionyl chloride primary cell with a unique hybrid layer capacitor (HLC). With a very high capacity of 16.5 Ah, it is the first choice for devices that need to function completely autonomously for many years.Highlights at a glanceVery high capacity: 16.5 Ah for extremely long, autonomous runtimes.High pulse current capability: Ideal for applications with high peak current demand (up to 3 A).No voltage drop: The integrated HLC prevents the passivation effect under load.Maximum service life: Low self-discharge of the primary cell and gentle operation.Robust D (Mono) design: Standardised size for use in demanding industrial applications.Powerful in a wide range of applicationsThe Tadiran SL-2780S is the optimal energy solution for applications that need to operate for years to decades without maintenance and periodically require high performance for transmission operations. Its primary fields of application include long-term asset tracking systems, autonomous measuring buoys, seismic measuring stations, professional security and surveillance technology with high energy requirements, as well as demanding military applications.PulsesPlus technology: Maximum energy and performanceThe core of the PulsesPlus battery is its hybrid design. The high-energy Li-SOCl₂ primary cell with 16.5 Ah serves as a long-term energy store and continuously charges the hybrid layer capacitor (HLC) connected in parallel. If the application requires a high current pulse, this is supplied directly by the HLC, not by the primary cell. This intelligent system protects the primary cell from high loads, prevents the typical voltage drop caused by passivation, and thus ensures stable voltage and maximum service life.Superior lithium-hybrid technologyBy combining the best features of two technologies, the PulsesPlus battery offers unrivalled advantages. It combines the extremely high energy density and low self-discharge of a lithium thionyl chloride cell with the high power density of a capacitor. The result is an energy source that remains operational for decades and can immediately deliver high performance when required, even after long periods of inactivity and at low temperatures.Features  ModelTadiran SL-2780/S TechnologyPulsesPlus (Li-SOCl₂ + HLC) SizeD (Mono) Nominal voltage (V)3.6 Capacity (mAh)16500 Max. continuous discharge current500 mA Max. pulse current3000 mA Self-dischargeapprox. 2% per year Operating temperature (°C)-40 ~ +85 Dimensions (Ø x L, mm)approx. 33.1 x 60.0 Weight (g)approx. 95 ConnectionStandard (industrial head) RechargeableNo  FAQs about this Tadiran PulsesPlus batteryWhat exactly is PulsesPlus technology?PulsesPlus is a hybrid system that combines a long-lasting lithium primary battery with a rechargeable hybrid capacitor (HLC). The battery provides the energy for an extremely long service life, while the capacitor delivers the high performance for current pulses. For which applications is a PulsesPlus battery superior to a standard lithium battery? It is ideal for devices that usually consume very little power but periodically require brief, high current pulses. A typical example is an asset tracker that transmits its position once a day via mobile communications. A standard battery would experience a voltage drop during this transmission pulse, but the PulsesPlus battery would not.Does PulsesPlus completely prevent the passivation effect?Yes, from the application's point of view, the passivation effect is completely eliminated. Since the high current pulse is supplied by the HLC and not by the primary cell, the primary cell never experiences the high load. This effectively prevents the voltage drop that occurs in standard cells due to the passivation layer.Does this model have solder terminals or wires? No, the SL-2780S model is the standard version with normal battery contacts and is intended for use in a suitable D battery holder. For direct installation, Tadiran also offers variants of this cell type with different connections. Is this system rechargeable? No, this is a primary system. The primary cell cannot be recharged from an external source. The integrated capacitor is recharged exclusively by the primary cell itself.
