Solar extension cable
Product information
The Solar extension cable set (3 metres, 4mm²) is the ideal solution for short distances within a photovoltaic installation. If you need to bridge short distances between your solar modules or wish to connect to a nearby inverter or charge controller – for example, on a balcony, a garage roof or in a camping area – this set provides a safe and virtually loss-free connection.
The set contains two high-quality, double-insulated solar cables: a red cable for the positive terminal (+) and a black cable for the negative terminal (-). Both ends are professionally pre-assembled with MC4-compatible plugs and sockets. Thanks to its short length of 3 metres and the robust cross-section of 4 mm², this set is ideally suited to almost all standard PV applications (balcony power stations, off-grid systems, roof-mounted systems).
Key features at a glance
- Ideal solution for short distances: At 3 metres in length, it is ideal for connecting modules in a string or for direct connection to micro-inverters.
- Plug & Play installation: The cables are pre-fitted with MC4-compatible connectors at both ends, so no special crimping tools are required.
- Reliable identification: The colour-coding in red (+) and black (-) simplifies installation and effectively prevents incorrect polarity.
- Weatherproof & Durable: The special cross-linked polyolefin sheath is UV-resistant, ozone-resistant and can withstand extreme temperatures ranging from -40°C to +90°C.
- IP67 protection rating: When connected, the connectors are completely dust-tight and protected against splashes and rain.
- High-quality conductor: Tinned electrolytic copper ensures excellent corrosion resistance and consistently high conductivity.
Areas of application
This 3-metre extension cable is designed for a wide range of applications:
- Balcony power stations
- Perfect for bridging the gap between the solar modules and the micro-inverter mounted directly behind or below them.
- String cabling
- Bridging gaps between rows of modules on pitched roofs or flat-roof mounting systems.
- Motorhomes & boats
- Connecting solar modules to the charge controller in compact spaces where long cable runs are not required.
Installation & Safety Instructions
- Minimal voltage drop
- At just 3 metres in length, the voltage drop is negligible. For both 12V/24V off-grid systems and high-voltage systems, this cross-section is technically perfectly dimensioned for this length.
- Strain relief
- Secure the cables to the mounting frame using UV-resistant cable ties. Avoid applying mechanical tension to the connectors and the module connection sockets.
- Correct engagement
- When connecting the cables, ensure that the MC4 connectors click audibly into place. This is the only way to ensure the connection is permanently watertight and protected against arcing.

FAQs on the 3m solar extension cable
Is 4 mm² sufficient for my 800 W balcony power plant?
Yes, absolutely. With a length of 3 metres and a typical current of approx. 10–13 amps, the resistance is so low that there are practically no measurable losses. 4 mm² is the standard here and is entirely sufficient.
Can I leave these cables lying around outdoors?
Yes, that’s what they’re designed for. The cables are certified to current PV standards. They are resistant to ammonia, ozone and UV radiation and can be used outdoors for decades.
Do the connectors fit modules from Trina, Jinko or JA Solar?
Yes. These manufacturers use MC4 or compatible systems (such as EVO2) as standard. The connectors on this extension cable fit these module connections perfectly, both mechanically and electrically.
