R&B 074601 - Maintenance-free lead-acid battery 4V / 3.5Ah (AGM)

Description

Product information

The R&B 074601 lead-acid battery (4V / 3.5Ah) is a compact and extremely reliable energy storage unit for small devices. Thanks to the proven AGM technology (Absorbent Glass Mat), where the battery acid is safely bound in a glass fibre mat, this lead-acid battery operates completely maintenance-free and is absolutely leak-proof.

With its nominal voltage of 4 volts and a capacity of 3.5 ampere-hours, it is the perfect replacement part to restore ageing everyday devices to full performance and long operating times. Its sturdy plastic case reliably protects the cells from shocks and vibrations.

Highlights at a glance

  • Maintenance-free (VRLA): No distilled water needs to be refilled during the entire service life.
  • Leak-proof & position-independent: Thanks to the AGM mat technology, the battery can be operated in almost any position (except permanently upside down).
  • Low self-discharge: Maintains voltage steadily even during longer storage without constant recharging.
  • Rugged case: The impact-resistant ABS plastic protects the battery from mechanical damage.
  • No memory effect: The lead-acid technology allows intermediate charging at any time without the capacity permanently shrinking.

Areas of application

  • Hand spotlights & work lights
    • Serves as a precisely fitting replacement battery for many classic halogen or LED battery spotlights that require a 4V power supply.
  • Commercial & Private Scales
    • The standard energy storage for mobile platform scales, counting scales or market scales (e.g. from KERN or comparable manufacturers).
  • Insect killers & camping accessories
    • Provides long-lasting power in portable electric fly swatters, lanterns or small fans.
  • Emergency power & alarm technology
    • Is often used as a backup battery in small emergency lighting or self-sufficient security systems.

Installation & Safety instructions

  • The correct charger
    • Only ever use chargers that are explicitly approved for 4 volt lead-acid batteries. A 6V or 12V charger would destroy the battery immediately and entails a fire risk.
  • Avoid deep discharge
    • Lead-acid batteries do not tolerate complete discharge (deep discharge). Recharge the device promptly after every prolonged use to prevent harmful sulphation of the lead plates.
  • Observe polarity
    • Make sure you connect the cable lugs with the correct polarity: Red is plus (+), black is minus (−).
  • Professional disposal
    • Lead-acid batteries contain toxic heavy metals and must not be disposed of with household waste. Hand in the old battery free of charge to a retailer or at a local recycling centre.

FAQs about the R&B 074601 (4V/3.5Ah)

My old battery is 4V and 4Ah or 4.5Ah. Can I still use this 3.5Ah battery?

Yes, usually without any problem. The voltage (4V) must be strictly adhered to, but the ampere-hours (Ah) only indicate the "capacity". A 3.5Ah battery fits electrically perfectly, it merely provides a minimally shorter total runtime compared to a 4.5Ah battery. It is only important that the dimensions fit into your device's battery compartment.

Do I need to charge the battery before first use?

It is highly recommended. Although AGM batteries are supplied pre-charged from the factory, they can lose some voltage during storage. Full charging before first use ensures you get full performance and protects the cell chemistry.

Can I replace this lead battery with a modern lithium-ion one?

This is strongly discouraged. Lithium-ion batteries have a different voltage (usually 3.7V) and require completely different charging electronics. If you connect a Li-ion battery to the internal charging electronics for lead-acid batteries in your device, there is an acute risk of fire and explosion.
