High-voltage inverter and large energy storage system as a set – for households with high consumption

This set contains the two central components of a powerful solar system with large storage: the three-phase Deye SUN-12K-SG01HP3-EU-AM2 hybrid inverter and the Felicity FLH96050SG1 high-voltage battery storage system with 20.48 kWh. Combine the set with solar modules of your choice to build a new system or retrofit an existing PV system with this set via AC coupling.

What does “high voltage” mean?

In a high-voltage storage system, the battery modules are connected in series, which means their voltages add up. In this set with four modules of 102.4 V each, the nominal voltage is 409.6 V; if expanded to six modules, it becomes 614.4 V. Due to the high voltage, less current flows. This means less energy is lost during conversion, and high charging and discharging capacities are possible. High-voltage systems are therefore particularly suitable for larger systems and households with high consumption.

Who is this set suitable for?

✅ Households with high electricity consumption, e.g. with a heat pump or electric car
✅ Builders and owner-occupiers who would like to choose their solar modules themselves
✅ Owners of an existing PV system who want to retrofit a storage system (AC coupling)
✅ Households with a three-phase domestic connection, as is common in Germany
✅ Anyone who would like to expand their storage system flexibly to up to 30.72 kWh later

The components explained simply

1. Hybrid inverter: Deye SUN-12K-SG01HP3-EU-AM2

What it does: Solar modules generate direct current, your household needs alternating current. The inverter converts the electricity. As a hybrid inverter, it also controls the storage system and automatically decides where the electricity flows: into the house, into the storage system or into the grid.

Why this inverter:

  • 12 kW output, 3-phase: It feeds into all three phases of your domestic connection, as is common in Germany.
  • 100 % asymmetrical output: It can load the phases to different extents. This is practical because household appliances rarely use the phases evenly.
  • For high-voltage storage systems: It operates with battery voltages of 160–700 V and charges or discharges at up to 37 A.
  • Plenty of scope for solar modules: Up to 19.2 kW max. PV input power, 1,000 V max. input voltage and two MPP trackers for a total of three strings. This means even roof areas with different orientations can be used.
  • High efficiency: Up to 97.6 % (Euro efficiency 97.0 %).
  • Retrofitting storage: The inverter can also be combined with an existing PV system via AC coupling.
  • Intelligent charge control: With 6 freely adjustable time windows, you can define when the storage system is charged or discharged, e.g. to match a dynamic electricity tariff.
  • Off-grid operation: According to the manufacturer, the inverter supports off-grid operation, i.e. operation without a public grid. Whether and how your appliances continue to be supplied in the event of a power cut depends on the installation. Discuss this with your electrician.
  • Future-proof: It supports charging via a diesel generator and parallel operation of up to 10 inverters.
  • Robust: IP65 protection against dust and water jets, operation from −40 to +60 °C.
  • Compliant with standards: It complies with the German grid connection guideline VDE-AR-N 4105.

Integrated protection functions: Insulation monitoring, residual current detection, anti-islanding protection, DC switch, reverse polarity protection and surge protection (Type II, DC and AC). An arc fault circuit interrupter (AFCI) is optionally available.

Good to know: The inverter weighs 30.5 kg and measures 408 × 638 × 237 mm. It is actively cooled and has a noise level of up to 55 dB(A). A plant room or utility room, cellar or garage is therefore more suitable as an installation location than a living space.

2. Battery storage system: Felicity FLH96050SG1 (20.48 kWh)

What it does: The storage system takes in surplus solar power and releases it as soon as the modules do not supply enough, especially in the evening and at night.

Why this storage system:

  • 20.48 kWh capacity: Four battery modules of 5.12 kWh each plus control module. With a depth of discharge of at least 95 %, around 19.5 kWh are usable.
  • LiFePO4 cells: Lithium iron phosphate is considered a particularly safe and durable battery chemistry. The storage system achieves at least 6,000 charge cycles (at 0.2C, 25 °C and 80 % depth of discharge).
  • Protected multiple times: An intelligent BMS, a circuit breaker and a fuse protect the storage system. In addition, there is an aerosol fire extinguishing system and protection for the inverter interface.
  • Robust housing: IP65 protection class, i.e. dust-tight and protected against water jets.
  • Touch display: Via the LCD touch display on the control module, you can see the status and set parameters and operating mode.
  • Easy to expand: The modules are stacked on top of each other. This allows you to expand the capacity to up to 30.72 kWh (6 battery modules).
  • Charging and discharging capacity: Felicity recommends 25 A, which is around 10.2 kW. The inverter can handle up to 37 A, the storage system can tolerate up to 50 A continuously. The inverter supplies max. 12 kW to the domestic grid.
  • Certified: UN38.3, CB, CE-EMC and IEC 62619.
  • Warranty: 10 years (in accordance with Felicity warranty conditions).

Good to know: The storage system is placed on the floor or stacked; wall mounting is not предусмотрed. Each battery module weighs 57.5 kg and measures 600 × 385 × 260 mm. The control module weighs 12.5 kg and measures 600 × 385 × 200 mm. Together, that is approx. 243 kg and a height of approx. 124 cm, in each case without base. Charging is possible at 0–55 °C, discharging at −20–55 °C.

FAQs about the high-voltage PV storage set

What is the difference between high voltage and low voltage?
In a high-voltage storage system, the battery modules are connected in series, which means their voltages add up. In this set, the nominal voltage is 409.6 V; in low-voltage storage systems it is usually around 51 V. Due to the higher voltage, less current flows, less energy is lost, and high charging and discharging capacities are possible. Important: High-voltage storage systems require a suitable high-voltage inverter, such as the one included in this set.

Which solar modules are suitable for the inverter?
The inverter processes up to 19.2 kW PV input power via two solar inputs with a total of three strings. The voltage range is 150–800 V. Input 1 can handle up to 26 A, input 2 up to 20 A. This means most modern solar modules are suitable. Your installer will determine the exact wiring.

Can I combine the set with my existing PV system?
