The Maxell CR2016 is a high-quality and extremely reliable 3-volt lithium button cell that is used in countless small electronic devices worldwide. The Japanese manufacturer Maxell is one of the pioneers in battery technology and stands for the highest manufacturing quality and leak-proof designs.Despite its extremely flat design of just 1.6 millimetres, this button cell delivers a constant voltage level and sufficient capacity to reliably supply car keys, sensors and watches with power for years to come. Thanks to the advanced lithium manganese dioxide chemistry, the cell also benefits from extremely low self-discharge, making it ideal for long-term storage.Highlights at a glanceConstant voltage: Provides reliable 3 volts over a long period of time for the fault-free operation of your sensitive small devices.Long shelf life: Thanks to their extremely low self-discharge, these lithium cells can be stored for up to 10 years without any significant loss of capacity.Leak-proof: The high-quality workmanship of Maxell prevents leakage and thus protects your valuable electronics from corrosion damage.Temperature stable: Works reliably under extreme conditions in a wide temperature range from -20 °C to +85 °C.Mercury-free: Environmentally friendly technology without the addition of toxic heavy metals such as mercury (0% Hg).Areas of applicationThe flat CR2016 is the classic energy source for compact housings:Car keys & remote controls: The absolute standard for many modern radio keys, garage door openers and parking heaters.Smart home & sensors: Ideal for small door and window contacts, compact thermometers or weather stations.Watches & calculators: Long-lasting power source for digital wristwatches, desktop calculators, organisers and fitness trackers.Medical technology: Reliable power supply for blood glucose meters, digital clinical thermometers and heart rate monitors.Assembly & safety instructionsKeep away from children: Button cells can cause life-threatening internal injuries and chemical burns if swallowed. Always keep batteries out of the reach of children and consult a doctor immediately if you suspect that they have been swallowed!Note polarity: The flat side, usually labelled with the type designation, is the positive pole (+), the slightly curved underside is the negative pole (-).Avoid fingerprints: When inserting button cells, ideally only handle them by the edge or with plastic tweezers. A greasy film from your fingers on the contact surfaces can impede the flow of current and lead to failures. Not rechargeable: Never attempt to charge this primary lithium battery in a charger. This can lead to overheating, leakage or, in the worst case, explosion. Although both cells deliver 3 volts and measure 20 mm in diameter, at 3.2 mm the CR2032 is exactly twice as thick as the flat CR2016 (1.6 mm). It usually does not fit mechanically into the battery compartment or prevents the housing cover from closing. However, there are exceptions with certain devices (e.g. some car keys) where two superimposed CR2016 can be replaced by one CR2032 – in this case, always refer to the operating instructions! What do the numbers "2016" mean? This is an internationally standardised size specification: The first two digits ("20") stand for the diameter in millimetres (20.0 mm). The last two digits ("16") represent the height of the battery in tenths of a millimetre (1.6 mm).How can I tell if the battery in my key is running low? With car keys, the range of the remote control often decreases noticeably at first, or the small indicator LED on the key flashes much more weakly than usual. When measuring with a multimeter, an unused, new cell should display slightly above 3.0 volts (approx. 3.2V - 3.3V). If the voltage drops below approx. 2.7 volts under load, it is recognised as empty by many devices.
The Maxell CR2025 is a powerful and globally proven 3-volt lithium button cell designed for the long-lasting and safe operation of your everyday small devices. As one of the pioneers in battery manufacturing, Japanese manufacturer Maxell guarantees the highest reliability and a leak-proof design. With a thickness of 2.5 millimetres, this cell offers the perfect compromise between a slim design and high capacity (approx. 170 mAh). It supplies car keys, medical devices and smart home sensors with a stable voltage for years. The advanced lithium manganese dioxide chemistry also ensures extremely low self-discharge, making the CR2025 perfect for long-term storage.Highlights at a glanceLong-lasting power: With around 170 mAh capacity, this 3-volt cell provides enduring energy for more power-hungry small devices.Excellent shelf life: Thanks to extremely low self-discharge, the battery remains ready for use even after up to 10 years of storage.Leak-proof design: Maxell guarantees the highest manufacturing standards, effectively protecting your valuable electronics from corrosion.Temperature resistant: Functions absolutely reliably in freezing cold (-20 °C) up to strong heat (+85 °C).Environmentally friendly: The advanced lithium technology is completely free from added toxic mercury (0% Hg).Areas of applicationThe CR2025 is the long-lasting classic for compact battery compartments:Car keys & remote controls: The absolute standard for many modern remote keys (e.g. VW, Audi, BMW) and garage door openers.Sports & health: Perfect for chest straps, pedometers, blood glucose meters and digital clinical thermometers.Smart home & IT: Reliable power source for mainboards (CMOS battery), smart thermostats and small alarm sensors.Consumer electronics: Ideal for 3D glasses, small remote controls (e.g. for LED candles or car radios) and calculators.Assembly & safety instructionsKeep away from children: Button cells can cause life-threatening internal injuries and burns if swallowed. Always keep batteries absolutely out of the reach of small children!Correct polarity: The flat side with the stamped inscription is always the positive pole (+), the slightly rougher/curved underside is the negative pole (-).Avoid fingerprints: Ideally, only touch the edge of the button cell when inserting it. A layer of grease from the fingers on the large contact surfaces can impede the flow of current and cause failures. Not rechargeable: This is a primary cell. Never try to charge the battery in a charger. This can cause overheating or explosion. Features ModelMaxell CR2025 Chemical composition**Lithium manganese dioxide** (Li/MnO2) Nominal voltage**3.0 V** Nominal capacity**165 mAh** Dimensions (Ø x H)**20.0 mm x 2.5 mm** Weightapprox. 2.4 g Operating temperature range-20°C to +85°C Alternative designationsDL2025, ECR2025, NA, BR2025, 280-205 FAQs about the Maxell CR2025Does the CR2025 also fit where a CR2032 was used before?Often yes, but it is not ideal. The CR2025 is thinner at 2.5 mm than the CR2032 (3.2 mm) but has exactly the same diameter. If the spring contact in the battery compartment is flexible enough, the device will function. However, the CR2025 has significantly less capacity (approx. 170 mAh vs. 220 mAh), so it will run out noticeably faster. Conversely, a CR2032 often does not fit in a compartment intended for CR2025, as it is too thick and the cover will not close. What do the numbers "2025" stand for?The designation is an internationally standardised code: the first two digits ("20") represent the diameter of the button cell in millimetres (20.0 mm). The last two digits ("25") indicate the height in tenths of a millimetre, in this case 2.5 mm.What is the best way to store my spare batteries?Ideally, store lithium button cells in their original packaging (blister) in a dry, cool place at normal room temperature. Avoid direct sunlight or proximity to heaters. The refrigerator is not necessary and is rather unsuitable due to possible condensation when removing.
