Solar extension cable 20m 6mm² - red/black for reliable PV applications (set)

Description

Product information

The solar extension cable set (20 metres, 6mm²) is the high-performance solution for photovoltaic projects where maximum efficiency and minimum losses over long distances are paramount. If you need to bridge a distance of 20 metres between your solar modules and the inverter, this generous cross-section of 6mm² offers the necessary reserves to safely transmit the generated energy to its destination without any significant heat build-up.

The set contains two high-quality, double-insulated solar cables: a red cable for the positive pole (+) and a black cable for the negative pole (-). Both ends are professionally fitted with MC4-compatible plugs and sockets. The solid cross-section makes this set particularly future-proof and ideal for modern high-performance modules, which often deliver high currents and where standard cables already reach their limits at this distance.

Highlights at a glance

  • Lowest line losses: The cross-section of 6mm² drastically reduces electrical resistance and ensures a much lower voltage drop than conventional 4mm² cables over 20 metres.
  • Plug & Play installation: The cables are pre-assembled on both sides with MC4-compatible connectors, so no special crimping tool is required.
  • Secure identification: The colour coding in red (+) and black (-) effectively prevents incorrect polarity and makes installation easier even with more complex systems.
  • Weatherproof & durable: The special jacket made of cross-linked polyolefin is UV-resistant, ozone-resistant and withstands extreme temperatures from -40°C to +90°C.
  • IP67 protection class: The connectors are absolutely dustproof when plugged in and protected against temporary submersion (rain/puddles).
  • High-quality conductor: Tinned electrolytic copper ensures excellent corrosion resistance and permanently high conductivity, even in demanding environments.

Areas of application

This 20-metre extension is optimised for demanding long-distance connections:

  • Large balcony power plants & garden systems
    • Ideal for placing modules at the sunny end of a garden or on a carport and routing the electricity with minimal loss over 20 metres to the house.
  • Roof systems & barns
    • Bridging the distance from far-off module strings to the point of entry into the building or to the central inverter.
  • Off-grid systems (12V / 24V / 48V)
    • Particularly critical for battery systems: At 20 metres, the 6mm² cross-section ensures that the charging voltage arrives almost loss-free, noticeably increasing the efficiency of your storage unit.

Assembly & safety instructions

  • Efficiency advantage over distance
    • At 20 metres cable length, 6mm² offers a significant advantage over 4mm². The lower resistance provides a higher system voltage at the inverter and thus measurably more yield.
  • Strain relief & fixation
    • Fasten the long cable paths every 50-100 cm with UV-resistant cable ties to the mounting frame or in cable ducts to avoid mechanical strain on the connectors.
  • Correct locking
    • When connecting, make sure that the MC4 connectors audibly engage. Only then is the connection permanently watertight and safe against dangerous arcing.

FAQs about the solar extension cable 20m 6mm²

Why should I choose 6mm² for 20m?

To minimise power losses. At a length of 20 metres (40m total distance), the resistance adds up. 6mm² cables have around 30% less resistance than 4mm² cables. This means less heat loss in the cable and more usable energy for your inverter.

Do the connectors fit modules from all common manufacturers?

Yes. The connectors used comply with the worldwide MC4 standard. They fit mechanically and electrically perfectly to connections on brands such as Trina, Jinko, JA Solar or Canadian Solar.

Can I shorten the cable if necessary?

Yes, with expertise. You can cut the cable. Please note, however, that you will need professional MC4 connectors and special crimping pliers for the new connection to ensure a permanently safe connection.

MOUNTING SYSTEMS centre clamp 30-40mm & EC sw

The Mounting Systems centre clamp is an indispensable connecting element for the secure fixing of solar modules to substructures. This special version is designed as a universal clamp and covers module frame heights from 30 to 40 mm. In the version "sw" (black) it is the perfect optical complement for modern full-black modules and black anodised rail systems. The clamp is supplied including the EC component (Easy Click), which significantly shortens assembly time. Thanks to the click mechanism, the clamp can be engaged at any position on the mounting rail from above, without the need to laboriously slide it in from the side.Highlights at a glanceUniversal clamping range: Flexibly applicable for solar modules with a frame thickness between 30 mm and 40 mm.Easy Click (EC) technology: Quick and easy one-handed installation by direct engagement into the groove of the mounting rail.Aesthetic design: The black anodisation ensures a homogeneous appearance when using black module frames.High material quality: Manufactured from weather-resistant aluminium and stainless steel for maximum durability.Secure hold: Ensures permanent and vibration-resistant fixing of the modules to the substructure, even under high wind and snow loads.Pre-assembled set: The clamp is supplied ready for installation, including screw and the special click block.Areas of applicationThe centre clamp is used to fasten two adjacent modules:Photovoltaic rooftop systemsUse on pitched roofs in combination with Mounting Systems standard aluminium profiles.Free-field & flat roof systemsWherever modules are mounted in rows side by side and a clamping distance between the modules is required.Visually sophisticated projectsEspecially for systems where a continuous black look (full black) without silver accents is desired.Installation & safety instructionsPositioningThe centre clamp is placed between two solar modules. Make sure that both module frames are flush with the clamp before you tighten the screw.Tightening torqueObserve the tightening torque specified by the manufacturer (usually approx. 8–10 Nm) to ensure secure fastening without damaging the module frame.End of rowPlease note that centre clamps are only intended for connecting two modules. For the outer end of a module row, you need the appropriate end clamps. Properties  CategoryCentre clamp set Clamping range (frame height)30 – 40 mm Clamp materialAluminium (anodised) Colour / FinishBlack (sw / black) Area of applicationCentre fastening between two modules CompatibilityStandard mounting rails (Mounting Systems) Weather resistanceUV-resistant and corrosion-resistant FAQs on the Mounting Systems centre clampDoes this clamp fit all mounting rails?Optimised for Mounting Systems. The clamp is specially developed for the groove geometry of Mounting Systems profiles. For third-party rails, it should be checked in advance whether the click block (EC) engages securely. Why is the clamp specified for a range (30-40mm)?Due to the integrated spring/adjustment.The clamp is designed so that it adapts variably to the frame height when tightened. This saves storage capacity and increases flexibility on the construction site.Is the black colour scratch-resistant?Conditionally.The black anodised layer is very robust and weather-resistant. Care should still be taken when assembling with tools to avoid mechanical scratches in the colour layer. How many clamps do I need per module?Usually 4 fixing points. Two centre clamps (top and bottom) are required per module transition. For a row: (number of modules - 1) x 2 centre clamps.
