Hoymiles Micro inverter HMS-800W-2T - 800W power for balcony power plants
Description
Product information
The Hoymiles HMS-800W-2T is the powerful successor to the legendary HM series and sets new standards for modern balcony power plants. With a maximum output power of 800 watts this micro inverter gets the most out of your solar modules and is optimally prepared for the current legislation.
The "2T" in the name stands for two independent MPPT trackers. This means you can connect two solar modules, which are controlled completely independently of each other. If one module is in the shade or has a different alignment, the second module still runs at full power. Compared to the previous series, the HMS-800W-2T uses the more stable Sub-1G radio technology (for greater range to DTU) and the new BC05 plug-in system.
Highlights at a Glance
- High output power (800 watts): Delivers a full 800 VA of power into the household grid, making it ideal for the maximum permissible feed-in limit of balcony power plants.
- Two independent MPPT trackers: Guarantees the maximum yield from each individual module, even with partial shading or different alignment (e.g. east/west).
- Stable Sub-1G communication: Offers a noticeably more stable and wider-reaching connection through walls when used with an (optional) DTU compared to conventional Wi-Fi.
- New connection system (BC05): Equipped with the proprietary Hoymiles "Field Connector" (BC05) for rapid and extremely watertight installation.
- Reactive power control: Complies with the VDE-AR-N 4105:2018-11 standard and supports grid stability by providing reactive power.
- Robust design (IP67): The fully sealed housing is dust- and waterproof and designed for decades of outdoor use in the harshest conditions.
- Flexible limiting: Using an optional DTU unit, the output can be temporarily restricted to 600 watts via app (S-Miles Cloud) if required.
Areas of Application
The HMS-800W-2T is the standard solution for:
- Balcony power plants (2 modules): The classic – two modules on the balcony railing for maximum self-sufficiency covering your electricity needs.
- Garages & Carports: Thanks to high protection class IP67 can be safely used on flat roofs.
- Garden sheds: Easy installation “Plug & Play” (with suitable Schuko cable).
- Shaded locations: Where a string inverter would fail, the HMS-800 still extracts energy thanks to single MPPT.
Mounting & Safety Instructions
- Cable selection (Important!): The HMS-800W-2T uses the new BC05 connection (rectangular, flat). It is not compatible with the old Betteri BC01 cables from the HM series. When purchasing the connection cable, be sure to look for the note "for HMS series" or "BC05".
- Distance to the surface: Mount the inverter with at least 2 cm distance to the mounting surface (roof/wall) so that air can circulate behind the unit (passive cooling).
- Hot Spot: The metal housing acts as a heat sink and in summer at full load can become up to 80°C hot. This is normal, but avoid touching during operation.
- Earthing: The device is earthed via the AC connection. Additional grounding on the housing is possible, but not usually mandatory if a compliant Schuko/Wieland cable is used (observe local VDE standards).

FAQs about the Hoymiles HMS-800W-2T
What is the difference with the Hoymiles HM-800?
The HMS is the newer generation. The main differences are:
- Radio: HMS uses Sub-1G (better range) instead of 2.4 GHz (HM).
- Connection: HMS uses the BC05 connector, HM uses Betteri BC01.
- Amperage: The HMS tolerates higher input currents (14A), making it more compatible with modern high performance modules (400W+).
Do I necessarily need a DTU (Data Transfer Unit)?
For pure operation ("generate power"): No. As soon as the sun shines and the grid is present, it generates power. For monitoring (app) and settings (throttling to 600W): Yes. As the HMS-800W-2T does not have integrated Wi-Fi, you need the DTU-Lite-S stick for app connection.
Can I limit the inverter to 600 watts?
Yes. When used together with a DTU and an installer account in the S-Miles Cloud, the output power can be limited as a percentage (e.g. to 75% = 600W) to comply with current registration requirements.Documents 1
