Growatt TPM-V3 Smart Meter – Precise 3-phase energy monitoring
Description
Product information
The Growatt TPM-V3 (Three Phase Meter) is a highly precise measuring device for recording the energy flow in 3-phase grids. It is the key component for any Growatt PV system looking to optimise self-consumption, implement zero export, or control a battery storage system.
By transmitting real-time consumption and feed-in values to the inverter, the smart meter enables intelligent energy distribution and provides seamless visualisation of your energy management via the Growatt online portal (ShineServer/ShinePhone).
Highlights at a glance
- High measurement accuracy: Records currents, voltages and active power with extremely low error tolerance (Class 1) to ensure precise system control.
- Real-time monitoring: Delivers instant data on current household consumption, grid feed-in and grid import directly to Growatt monitoring.
- Supports zero export: Allows inverter configuration for dynamic power reduction if no energy may be fed into the public grid.
- Simple DIN rail mounting: Compact design for space-saving installation in standard meter cabinet or sub-distribution board.
- Direct measurement up to 80A: Can be integrated directly into the phase path in most households without external current transformers.
- RS485 interface: Fast and stable communication with the inverter via the Modbus RTU protocol.
Areas of application
The TPM-V3 is essential for modern energy concepts:
- Self-consumption optimisation
- The system detects exactly when surplus energy is available in order to store it in the battery or activate devices.
- Storage systems (SolaX, Growatt SPH/MOD-XH)
- Essential for battery charge and discharge management based on actual energy demand at the grid connection point.
- Visualisation & analysis
- Detailed visualisation of the load profile in the Shine portal to identify high-energy-consuming appliances in the household.
Assembly & safety instructions
- Professional connection
- Installation must be carried out by a qualified electrician, as the smart meter is integrated directly into the main line behind the utility meter.
- Correct phase sequence
- Strictly ensure that the phases L1, L2 and L3 on the meter correspond with the connections on the inverter to prevent incorrect measurements or error messages.
- Communication line
- Use a shielded, twisted pair cable (Twisted Pair) for the RS485 connection to avoid signal interference over longer distances.

FAQs about the Growatt TPM-V3 Smart Meter
Can the smart meter also be used for systems without a battery?
Yes. Even without storage, the smart meter allows you to see your actual self-consumption and export ratio in the portal. Without the Smart Meter, the inverter can only measure generation, not the household consumption.
Is the TPM-V3 compatible with all Growatt inverters?
With almost all modern 3-phase models. It is natively compatible with the MOD-KTL3-X, SPH-KTL3-UP, MID-KTL3-X series and the new XH series. For single-phase systems, the SPM (Single Phase Meter) is needed.
Does the meter display show the same values as the online portal?
Yes, but with a higher refresh rate. On the illuminated LCD display, you can read the current values (volts, amps, watts per phase) directly on the unit. The online portal updates the graphical display every 1 to 5 minutes depending on data logger settings.Reviews 0
