R&B Maintenance-free lead-acid battery - 4V / 3.5Ah (AGM)
Description
Product information
The R&B 4V / 3.5Ah is a compact and absolutely maintenance-free lead-fleece battery (AGM technology). With a nominal voltage of 4 volts, this battery is a true specialist and supplies reliable energy for a variety of compact industrial and everyday devices.
Thanks to VRLA technology (Valve Regulated Lead Acid), the housing is completely sealed. The electrolyte is safely bound in a glass fibre mat, making this battery extremely leakproof, resistant to vibrations and especially easy to maintain. It is suitable for both cyclic use (frequent charging/discharging) and standby parallel operation (standby).
Highlights at a glance
- Maintenance-free AGM technology: The electrolyte is safely bound in a glass fibre mat, which makes the battery completely leakproof and eliminates the need to top up water throughout its entire life.
- Position-independent operation: Thanks to the sealed VRLA design, the battery can be installed and operated safely in almost any position (except permanently upside down).
- Low self-discharge: The high-quality lead chemistry ensures that the battery retains its charge very well even after prolonged storage (e.g. in seasonally used devices).
- High cycle resistance: The robust grid plates are designed to withstand repeated daily charging and discharging processes (e.g. in mobile devices) with ease.
- Standardised connections: Equipped with Faston plug-in contacts (usually 4.8 mm) commonly used in this size class for quick and tool-free replacement ("Plug & Play").
Fields of application
The 4V / 3.5Ah specification is a widely used industry standard for the following devices:
- Electronic scales: The absolute classic. Used in thousands of market scales, platform scales and counting scales as a backup or main source of power.
- Hand spotlights & torches: Large, rechargeable LED or halogen spotlights for tradesmen, security services or private use.
- Emergency and safety lighting: Compact escape route lights that come into operation in the event of a power failure.
- Toys: Small electric cars or model building applications requiring 4V.
- Insect killers: Mobile, rechargeable devices for outdoor use.
Assembly & safety instructions
- Avoid deep discharge: Lead batteries do not tolerate deep discharges. Charge the battery immediately after every use (e.g. after using the scale at the market). Never store it in a discharged state.
- Correct charging technology: Only use chargers that are expressly suitable for 4V lead batteries. A 6V or 12V charger would cause the battery to boil immediately and destroy it (risk of swelling).
- Plug contact: Before installation, check that the cable shoes of your device sit tightly on the 4.8 mm Faston contacts. A loose contact leads to voltage drops and heat development.
- Recycling: Lead batteries are highly recyclable but also toxic. Never dispose of old batteries in household waste, always return them to a recycling centre or specialist battery retailer.

FAQs about the R&B 4V/3.5Ah
Will this battery fit as a replacement in my electronic scales?
Yes, in the vast majority of cases. The values "4V" and "3.5Ah" (often also 3.2Ah or 4.0Ah) at dimensions of approx. 90x34x60 mm are the quasi-standard for mobile market and platform scales. To be on the safe side, simply measure your old part and compare the dimensions.
My old battery has 4V and 4.0Ah. Can I still use this 3.5Ah battery?
Yes, absolutely. The voltage (4V) is the crucial factor and must match. The capacity (Ah) merely indicates the runtime. A 3.5Ah battery works perfectly in a 4.0Ah device; the maximum operating time (e.g. the headlamp's lighting time) is only slightly shorter.
What is the best way to store the battery over winter?
Charge the battery to 100% before storage. Disconnect it from the device (to exclude silent consumers) and store it in a cool, dry place (approx. 10–15°C). Recharge the battery at the latest every 3 to 4 months to prevent damage from sulphation.
