Solar extension cable 12m 4mm² - red/black for solar systems (set)
Description
Product information
With this solar extension cable set (12 metres, 4mm²) you can also safely and weatherproof bridge larger distances between your solar modules and the inverter or charge controller. The length of 12 metres offers you maximum flexibility, for example to optimally align modules to the sun on a garden shed, garage or far away in the garden, while the technology remains protected in the house.
The set includes two double-insulated solar cables (1x red for plus, 1x black for minus), already assembled with MC4-compatible plugs and sockets. Despite the considerable length, the high-quality conductor cross-section of 4mm² made of tinned copper ensures reliable power transmission. The sheathing is specially designed for permanent outdoor use and withstands UV radiation, heat, cold and moisture for many years.
Highlights at a glance
- Extra range: 12 metres of cable length enable flexible installations even in difficult structural conditions or long routes through the garden.
- Ready for immediate use: Pre-assembled on both sides with standard MC4-compatible connectors (Plug & Play) – no crimping required.
- Safety colour code: The set of red (+) and black (-) virtually excludes confusion when connecting and protects your expensive electronics.
- High-quality material: Tinned copper (4mm²) provides good corrosion protection and low line losses.
- Weatherproof (IP67): The connectors are dust-tight and waterproof when plugged in, ideal for rain and snow.
- Durable: The special insulation is resistant to UV radiation, ozone, acids and alkalis and is temperature-resistant from -40°C to +90°C.
Areas of application
The 12 metre extension solves installation problems for long distances:
- Garden shed & garage: If the modules are on the outbuilding but the inverter or storage is accommodated in the main house.
- Shading optimisation: Allows the placement of the modules far from shade-providing trees or buildings.
- Façade installation: For neat routing of the cables from the façade to the plant room or cellar.
- String extension: To electrically connect module fields that are structurally separated (e.g. on two different sides of a roof).
Installation & safety instructions
- Note voltage drop: With 12 metres (24m current path there and back), a physically caused resistance arises. For standard modules (up to around 10–15A), 4mm² is perfectly sufficient. However, if you are planning high-performance strings with very high currents (>20A), you should check the voltage drop.
- Strain relief: Due to the weight of 12m cable, the connectors on the module should not be under tension. Fix the cable to the frame with cable ties.
- Mechanical protection: With this length, the cable often runs over edges or through the garden. Be sure to use protective conduit (duct) at abrasive points or for underground installation.
- Connection: Firmly press the connectors together until a clear "click" is heard. A loose connection can get hot.

FAQs about the solar extension cable 12m
Is the power loss already too high at 12 metres?
No, not for typical applications. With a typical balcony system or a string with e.g. 10 amps, the voltage drop at 12 metres (4mm²) is about 1.5 to 2 volts. This corresponds to a loss of around 1-2%, which is absolutely within the acceptable range. Only in extreme low-light or very high current situations would a 6mm² cable be more advantageous.
Can I also install the cable indoors?
Yes, absolutely. The cables are designed for rugged outdoor use (UV/weather), but can also be safely used indoors, in cable ducts, or behind drywall. They are halogen-free and flame-retardant.
Do the connectors fit every inverter?
Usually, yes. Almost all modern PV modules and microinverters (e.g. Hoymiles, Deye, NEP) use the MC4 standard (or compatible types such as TS4). The connections on this cable are mechanically and electrically suitable for them.Properties
