Solar extension cable 50m 6mm² - red/black for reliable PV applications (set)
Description
Product information
The solar extension cable set (50 metres, 6mm²) is the ultimate range solution for photovoltaic projects with extreme distances. If your solar panels have to be installed in the sunniest spot on your property – such as at the end of a large paddock, on a remote barn or in an open field – and the inverter is centrally located in a building, this generous cross-section of 6mm² provides the necessary capacity to limit power losses over the enormous 50 metre route.
The set includes two high-quality, double-insulated solar cables: one red cable for the positive pole (+) and one black cable for the negative pole (-). Both ends are professionally pre-assembled with MC4-compatible plugs and sockets. Due to the massive total length of 50 metres (100 metres total in the circuit), a cross-section of 6mm² is the absolute minimum technical recommendation to maintain the efficiency of your system.
Highlights at a glance
- Maximum range: With 50 metres of cable, you can implement extremely large-scale installation scenarios far from the house connection or main distribution board.
- Minimised resistance: The 6mm² cross-section is essential at this length to significantly reduce voltage drop compared to standard cables (4mm²).
- Plug & Play installation: The cables are pre-assembled on both sides with MC4-compatible connectors, so no specialist crimping tools are required.
- Safe identification: The clear colour coding in red (+) and black (-) effectively prevents dangerous polarity mix-ups over such extremely long runs.
- Weatherproof & durable: The special cross-linked polyolefin jacket is UV-resistant, resistant to ozone and can withstand extreme temperatures from -40°C to +90°C.
- IP67 protection: The connectors are absolutely dustproof when plugged in and protected against temporary immersion.
Areas of application
This 50-metre extension is designed for specific long-distance connections:
- Large ground-mounted systems
- Ideal for placing modules far away in a meadow or at the edge of the property where there is no shading from buildings or woodland edges.
- Agriculture & industry
- Connecting remote barns, stables or pumping stations to a central meter cabinet or inverter room.
- Off-grid systems (24V / 48V)
- For battery systems over a distance of 50m, a 6mm² cross-section is absolutely necessary to keep the charging voltage stable; for 12V systems, even with 6mm², this distance would already be critical.
Installation & Safety Instructions
- Observe voltage drop
- At 50 metres length, the total power path is 100 metres. For grid-tied systems with high string voltage (> 200V), 6mm² is a very good choice. For lower voltages (e.g. only one 40V module), the percentage loss over this distance, even with 6mm², is already noticeable.
- Protection for underground installation
- The cable is weather-resistant, but not protected against mechanical influences. You must use a suitable protective conduit (e.g. cable protection tube) for underground installation to prevent damage from rodents or excavation work.
- Avoid induction & heat
- Never coil excess cable tightly while current is flowing. This can lead to induction and dangerous heat build-up. Lay excess lengths in wide loops.

FAQs about the solar extension cable 50m 6mm²
Is 6mm² really sufficient for 50 metres length?
Yes, for high-voltage systems; borderline for balcony PV. With a typical balcony PV system (40V, 10A), you lose around 3 volts (7.5% output) over 50m with a 6mm² cable. This is technically safe but already a compromise in energy. For maximum yield at this length, we recommend wiring the modules in series to increase the voltage and reduce the percentage loss.
Will the connectors fit my inverter from Growatt, Deye or Victron?
Yes. The connectors used comply with the worldwide MC4 standard. They fit both mechanically and electrically with almost all standard solar modules and inverters.
Can I shorten the cable if needed?
Yes, but only with expertise. You can cut the cable to length. However, please note that you will need professional MC4 connectors and a suitable PV crimping tool to ensure a permanently safe connection.Properties
