Solar extension cable 50m 4mm² - red/black for flexible PV installations (set)

Description

Product information

The Solar extension cable set (50 metres, 4mm²) is the ultimate range solution for photovoltaic projects with extreme distances. If your solar modules need to be located in the sunniest place on the property – for example at the end of a spacious garden, in a remote paddock or on a remote outbuilding – and the inverter needs to remain centrally in the house, you can bridge the distance safely and reliably with this set.

The set contains two high-quality, double-insulated solar cables: a red cable for the positive pole (+) and a black cable for the negative pole (-). Both ends are professionally pre-assembled with MC4-compatible plugs and sockets. Due to the massive length of 50 metres (100 metres total in the circuit), this set is designed exclusively for systems with very high string voltage to keep percentage line losses within acceptable limits.

Highlights at a glance

  • Maximum range: With a length of 50 metres per cable, you can also realise extremely far-reaching installation scenarios far from the house connection.
  • Plug & Play installation: The cables are pre-assembled on both sides with MC4-compatible connectors, so no special crimping tool is required.
  • Secure identification: The clear colour coding in red (+) and black (-) effectively prevents dangerous polarity confusion over this extremely long laying distance.
  • Weatherproof & durable: The special sheath made of cross-linked polyolefin is UV-resistant, ozone-resistant and withstands extreme temperatures from -40°C to +90°C.
  • Protection class IP67: The plug connections are absolutely dust-tight and protected against temporary submersion (e.g. in heavy rain or puddles) when plugged in.
  • High-quality conductor: Tin-plated electrolytic copper ensures maximum corrosion resistance and permanently excellent conductivity.

Areas of application

This 50-metre extension is intended for specific scenarios:

  • Large open-space systems
    • Ideal for setting up modules far away on a meadow or at the edge of a property where there is no shade from buildings or forest edges.
  • Agriculture & outbuildings
    • Connecting distant barns, stables or pumping stations to the main building.
  • Indirect cable routing
    • When cables cannot be laid directly, but must be routed over long detours around obstacles or through long empty conduit systems.

Assembly & safety instructions

  • Voltage drop (Extremely important!)
    • At a length of 50 metres, the total current path is 100 metres. For grid-connected systems with very high string voltage (> 200V), 4mm² is technically possible. For 12V or 24V stand-alone systems, this cable is absolutely unsuitable due to the massive voltage drop; your consumers would hardly get any energy here.
  • Laying underground
    • Although the cable is weatherproof, it is not protected against mechanical influences (spade cuts, rodents). When laying underground, you must use a high-quality protective conduit (e.g. cable protection pipe).
  • Avoid induction & heat
    • Never coil excess cable tightly while current is flowing, as this can cause induction and heat development. Lay excess lengths in large loops.

FAQs about the solar extension cable 50m

Does 4mm² still make sense at 50 metres in length?

For standard balcony power plants rather no. For a typical balcony power plant (approx. 40V module voltage, 10A current), you have a voltage drop of approx. 4.5 volts at 50m. This corresponds to a power loss of around 11-12%. This is technically safe, but energetically very inefficient. At this length, we strongly recommend switching to 6mm² or better 10mm² cable.

Do the connectors fit my inverter from Hoymiles, Deye or Growatt?

Yes. The built-in connectors comply with the worldwide MC4 standard, which is used in almost all modern solar modules and microinverters. They fit perfectly both mechanically and electrically.

Can I shorten the cable if necessary?

Yes, but only with expertise. You can cut the cable. However, please note that for the new connection you will need professional MC4 connectors and a special crimping tool to ensure a permanently reliable and watertight connection.
