Solar extension cable 30m 4mm² – red/black for high-quality PV connections (set)

Description

Product information

The solar extension cable set (30 metres, 4mm²) is the professional solution for photovoltaic projects where maximum flexibility and range are required. If your solar modules are to be installed on a remote open space, a carport or a barn and the path to the inverter or battery storage is a considerable distance away, you can bridge this distance safely and efficiently with this set.

The set contains two high-quality, double-insulated solar cables: a red cable for the positive pole (+) and a black cable for the negative pole (-). Both ends are professionally pre-assembled with MC4-compatible plugs and sockets. Due to the considerable length of 30 metres (60 metres total circuit path), this set is primarily designed for systems with high string voltage, to keep the percentage line losses low.

Highlights at a glance

  • Extreme range: With 30 metres length per cable, even large properties and complex routing situations can be managed easily.
  • Plug & Play installation: The cables are pre-assembled on both sides with MC4-compatible connectors, so no special crimping tool is needed.
  • Secure identification: The clear colour coding in red (+) and black (-) effectively prevents polarity confusion during installation over long distances.
  • Weatherproof & durable: The special jacket made of cross-linked polyolefin is UV-resistant, ozone-resistant and withstands extreme temperatures from -40°C to +90°C.
  • IP67 protection: The connectors are completely dust-tight when plugged in and protected against temporary submersion (e.g. during heavy rain).
  • High-quality conductor: Tinned electrolytic copper ensures maximum corrosion resistance and permanently excellent conductivity.

Areas of application

This 30-metre extension is optimised for specific scenarios:

  • Large ground-mounted systems
    • Ideal for placing solar modules at the shade-free end of a garden or on a meadow, while the technology is installed in the house.
  • Outbuildings & agriculture
    • Connecting distant stables, barns or tool sheds with the main house connection or a feed-in point.
  • Complex cable routing
    • When cables cannot be laid directly but have to be routed around buildings or through widely branching duct systems.

Assembly & safety instructions

  • Voltage drop (Important!)
    • With 30 metres length, the total current path is 60 metres. For grid-connected systems with high voltage (> 60V), 4mm² is acceptable. For 12V or 24V stand-alone systems, this cable is not suitable due to the high voltage drop; here cross-sections of 10mm² or 16mm² should be chosen.
  • Laying in the ground
    • Although the cable is weather-resistant, it is not protected against mechanical stress (spade cuts, rodents). Always use a suitable protective conduit (flexible or cable protection conduit) for underground installation.
  • Avoid induction & heat
    • Never coil excess cable tightly when current is flowing, as this can cause heat build-up. Ideally, lay excess length in wide loops ("meandering").

FAQs about the solar extension cable 30m

Is 4mm² still efficient at 30 metres in length?

For high-voltage systems, partially yes; for 12V systems, no. With a typical balcony plant (approx. 40V module voltage, 10A current), there will be a voltage drop of around 2.5 volts at 30m. This equates to approximately 6% power loss. This is technically safe but at the limit of efficiency. For maximum yields at this length, we recommend switching to 6mm² cables.

Are the connectors compatible with my inverter from Hoymiles, Deye or TSUN?

Yes. The connectors used adhere to the global MC4 standard. They fit mechanically and electrically flawlessly to almost all common solar modules and microinverters.

Can I shorten the cable if necessary?

Yes, with the proper tool. You can cut the cable. However, note that for the new connection, you will need professional MC4 plugs and a suitable crimping tool to ensure a permanently safe and watertight connection.
