Solar extension cable 15m 6mm² - red/black for reliable PV applications (set)
Description
Product information
The solar extension cable set (15 metres, 6mm²) is the high-performance solution for photovoltaic projects where maximum efficiency and minimal losses are paramount. If you need to bridge a distance of 15 metres between your solar modules and the inverter, this generous 6mm² cross-section provides the necessary reserves to safely deliver the generated energy to its destination without significant heat development.
The set includes two high-quality, double-insulated solar cables: one red cable for the positive pole (+) and one black cable for the negative pole (–). Both ends are professionally pre-assembled with MC4-compatible plugs and sockets. Due to its large cross-section, this set is particularly future-proof and ideal for modern high-performance modules that often deliver high currents, where standard cables may reach their limits.
Highlights at a glance
- Lowest cable losses: The 6mm² cross-section massively minimises electrical resistance and results in a significantly lower voltage drop than conventional 4mm² cables.
- Plug & Play installation: The cables are fully pre-assembled on both sides with MC4-compatible connectors, so no special crimping tools are required.
- Safe identification: The red (+) and black (–) colour coding effectively prevents incorrect polarity and simplifies installation, even in more complex systems.
- Weatherproof & durable: The special cross-linked polyolefin sheath is UV-resistant, ozone-resistant and withstands extreme temperatures from –40°C to +90°C.
- IP67 protection rating: When connected, the connectors are completely dustproof and protected against temporary submersion (rain/puddles).
- High-quality conductor: Tinned electrolytic copper ensures excellent corrosion resistance and permanently high conductivity, even in salty air.
Areas of application
This 15-metre extension is optimised for demanding scenarios:
- High-power balcony power plants
- Ideal for systems with 800W or more, to transmit every watt from balcony or garage roof to inverter loss-free, even in full midday sun.
- Roof systems & carports
- Bridging the distance from the modules to the entry point into the building or directly to the string inverter.
- Off-grid systems (12V / 24V)
- Especially critical for battery systems: The 6mm² cross-section ensures that the charging voltage reaches the battery almost loss-free, which noticeably increases charging efficiency.
Assembly & safety instructions
- Efficiency advantage
- With 15 metres cable length, 6mm² provides a clear advantage over 4mm² as resistance is reduced by about a third. This means more yield for your system over its entire service life.
- Strain relief
- Fix the cables to the mounting frame with UV-resistant cable ties. Avoid mechanical tension on the connectors and module connection boxes.
- Correct locking
- When plugging them together, ensure the MC4 connectors audibly click into place. Only then is the connection permanently watertight and safe from hazardous arcs.

FAQs about the solar extension cable 15m 6mm²
Why should I choose 6mm² instead of 4mm²?
For more yield and safety. Although 4mm² is often technically sufficient, the resistance is lower with 6mm². This leads to less heat build-up in the cable and higher voltage at the inverter. Especially with modules supplying high currents (13A or more), 6mm² is the technically superior choice.
Will the connectors fit my inverter from Growatt or Victron?
Yes. The assembled connectors meet the worldwide MC4 standard. They fit mechanically and electrically perfectly with the connections of almost all common solar modules, micro inverters and charge controllers.
Can I shorten the cable if necessary?
Yes, with the right tool. You can cut the cable to length. Please note, however, that you will need professional MC4 connectors and a special crimping tool for the new connection to ensure a permanently safe connection.Properties
