Optima YellowTop YT S 4.2 AGM lead-acid battery 12V 55Ah
Description
Product information
The OPTIMA YellowTop YT S 4.2 is a revolutionary high-performance AGM battery that, thanks to the patented SPIRALCELL TECHNOLOGY®, combines the maximum starting power of a starter battery with the cycle stability of a supply battery. With a nominal voltage of 12 V, a high capacity of 55 Ah and enormous cold-start current, it is the ultimate solution for modern vehicles with extensive electrical equipment, commercial vehicles in demanding continuous use or off-road vehicles with winches and additional lighting.
Highlights at a glance
- Dual-purpose functionality: Maximum starting power and excellent cycle stability in one battery.
- SPIRALCELL TECHNOLOGY®: Unique spiral cell design for extreme vibration resistance and a longer service life.
- High cycle stability: Ideal for vehicles with many electrical consumers and for repeated deep discharges.
- Absolutely maintenance-free and leak-proof: The sealed AGM design allows installation in almost any position.
- Fast recharge: Absorbs charge significantly faster than conventional batteries.
Maximum performance for demanding vehicles
The OPTIMA YellowTop YT S 4.2 was developed specifically for the extreme demands of modern vehicles, which go far beyond just starting. It is the ideal choice for vehicles with sophisticated sound systems, auxiliary headlights, winches, hydraulic systems and other energy-intensive consumers. Even in vehicles with seasonal use, in demanding short-distance operation or in construction vehicles, the YellowTop proves its superior performance and durability.
Superior SPIRALCELL TECHNOLOGY®
The heart of every OPTIMA battery is the unique SPIRALCELL TECHNOLOGY®. Instead of flat lead plates, high-purity lead spirals are used, wrapped in a glass-fibre mat (AGM). This compact and extremely stable design minimises internal resistance, resulting in outstanding starting power, faster charging and unsurpassed vibration resistance. This technology makes the YellowTop the perfect hybrid solution for starting and supplying.
Built for the most demanding conditions
The OPTIMA YellowTop is designed for tough use. Its sealed construction not only prevents acid leakage but also evaporation, making it completely maintenance-free. The robust construction made of impact-resistant polypropylene and the up to 15 times higher resistance to vibration compared to conventional batteries ensure that vibrations and shocks encountered in demanding driving conditions do not harm the battery.

FAQs about the OPTIMA YellowTop battery
What is the main advantage of SPIRALCELL TECHNOLOGY®?
The spiral cell technology provides an extremely robust and vibration-resistant internal structure, very low internal resistance for high starting currents as well as excellent cycle stability. It combines the advantages of a starter battery with those of a deep-cycle battery in a single product.
What is the difference between OPTIMA YellowTop and RedTop?
YellowTop: A dual-purpose battery (starting and supply). It is ideal for vehicles with high power requirements due to additional consumers (e.g. winches, large hi-fi systems), as it can withstand deep discharges. RedTop: A pure high-performance starter battery for maximum starting power. It is the right choice if starting is the main load and there are no deep discharge cycles.
Is this battery suitable for vehicles with automatic start-stop?
Although the YellowTop is very cycle-resistant, it was not specifically developed for the requirements of modern start-stop systems. For vehicles with start-stop technology, batteries with EFB or AGM technology in standard form, which are explicitly designed for this purpose, are recommended.
Which charger do I need for this AGM battery?
For AGM batteries, especially for OPTIMA batteries, a modern, microprocessor-controlled charger is recommended, which has a special charging curve for AGM batteries. This ensures complete and gentle charging and maximises service life.
How should this lead-acid battery be disposed of?
Lead-acid batteries contain environmentally harmful substances and must not be disposed of with household waste. You can return your old battery free of charge to any retailer that sells new batteries or to municipal recycling centres to ensure professional recycling.
