Solar extension cable 10m 4mm² - red/black for solar systems (set)

Description

Product information

This solar extension cable set (10 metres, 4mm²) offers you maximum freedom when positioning your solar modules. With a length of 10 metres, you can easily bridge longer distances, for example from the garden shed to the storage in the cellar or from the sunny installation site in the garden to the feed-in socket at the house.

The set consists of two high-quality, double-insulated solar cables (1x red for plus, 1x black for minus), which are already pre-fitted with MC4-compatible connectors. Despite the length of 10 metres, the 4mm² cross-section made of tinned copper ensures low-loss power transmission. The sheathing is extremely weatherproof, UV-stable and designed for permanent outdoor use in heat, cold and damp conditions.

Highlights at a glance

  • Long range: 10-metre cable length enables flexible module placement away from the inverter.
  • Plug & play: Pre-assembled on both sides with MC4-compatible plugs and sockets – no tools needed.
  • Safe installation: The set of Red (+) and Black (-) prevents dangerous polarity reversal errors during wiring.
  • Low loss: The high-quality copper conductor (4mm²) keeps the voltage drop low even at a distance of 10 metres (ideal for typical module currents up to 20A).
  • Extremely robust: The special insulation is resistant to UV radiation, ozone, acids and alkalis and temperature-resistant from -40°C to +90°C.
  • Waterproof (IP67): The plugged connections are dustproof and protected against temporary submersion.

Areas of application

The 10-metre extension is the problem solver for long distances:

  • Outdoor & garden installation: If the modules are in the sunny part of the garden, but the inverter or feed-in is at the house.
  • Camping & mobile solar: Makes it possible to park the camper in the shade while the mobile solar module remains in the full sun 10 metres away.
  • Roof-to-cellar connection: For laying the DC lines from the roof through empty conduits to the charge controller or inverter in the equipment room.
  • Building shading: To position modules where they are not shaded by your own house in the morning or evening.

Installation & safety instructions

  • Cable routing: With a length of 10 metres, the cables must not be left loose. Fix them with cable ties or lay them in a protective conduit/cable duct to protect against mechanical damage (lawnmowers, animal bites) and tripping hazards.
  • Avoid coils: If you do not need the full 10 metres, do not coil the excess cable tightly (inductive effect/heat). Lay in wide loops ("meandering") instead.
  • Check connection: Be sure to listen for the audible "click" of the plugs when connecting to prevent arcing and ingress of moisture.
  • Disconnect under load: Never pull the plugs apart under load (when the sun is shining). Switch off the inverter first or cover the modules.

FAQs about the solar extension cable 10m

Is 4mm² sufficient for a length of 10 metres or is there too much loss?

For standard applications (balcony power plant/camping) 4mm² is absolutely sufficient. For a typical solar module (approx. 10-13 amperes), the voltage drop over 10 metres (run and return = 20m cable length) is very low (usually under 1-2%). An upgrade to 6mm² is only necessary for very high currents (e.g. parallel connection of multiple modules before the cable) or even greater lengths.

Can I shorten the cable if 10 metres is too long?

Yes, but with effort. You can cut the cable, but you will then lose the cast/crimped connectors on one side. You will then need a special crimping tool for solar cables and new MC4 connectors to reattach. Simple screw connectors or soldering is not recommended for outdoor high-current solar applications.

Can I bury the cable directly in the ground?

No, better not without protection. Although the insulation is very robust, standard solar cables are not specified for permanent underground installation (risk from stones, moisture, rodents). For laying through the garden, use a low-cost PE conduit or a flexible cable protection hose.
