ANSMANN microcontroller fast charger for 1-10 cell battery packs

Description

Product information

This Ansmann microcontroller fast charger is the universal all-in-one solution for modelling and tool batteries. Designed for NiMH and NiCd battery packs consisting of 1 to 10 cells (nominal voltage 1.2V to 12.0V), the device recognises the number of cells fully automatically and controls the charging process precisely. Thanks to state-of-the-art microcontroller technology with -dU cut-off, your batteries are not only charged quickly, but also safely and with optimised service life.

Highlights at a glance

  • Universal compatibility: Charges NiMH and NiCd battery packs with 1 to 10 cells (1.2V - 12.0V) fully automatically.
  • Intelligent microcontroller control: The -dU (minus-delta-U) cut-off reliably recognises when the battery is fully charged and ends the fast charging process to prevent overcharging.
  • Versatile connections: Often equipped with a Tamiya plug and additional adapters (e.g. crocodile clips or hollow plugs) to connect a wide variety of packs.
  • Safety timer: An integrated safety timer serves as an additional protective mechanism to terminate the charging process in the event of defective batteries.
  • Can be used worldwide: Thanks to the wide-range input (100-240V AC), the charger can be used internationally.
  • Discharge function (depending on model): Many models in this series offer a button or function for discharging the battery before charging in order to minimise the memory effect (with NiCd) or lazy battery effect (with NiMH).

Precise charging technology for battery packs

The centrepiece of this charger is the microcontroller. It monitors the voltage curve during the charging process. As soon as the battery has reached its maximum capacity, the voltage drops slightly (-dU effect). The device registers this immediately and switches from fast charging to impulse trickle charge. This guarantees that your battery pack is always brim-full and ready for use without getting hot.

Ideal for modelling and hobbies

Whether for remote-controlled cars (RC cars), airsoft weapons, racing packs or self-assembled battery packs in torches and tools – this charger is the perfect companion. The automatic setting to the battery voltage makes manual switching superfluous and avoids operating errors.

FAQs on the Ansmann microcontroller fast charger

Can I also use it to charge Li-Po or Li-Ion batteries?

No, this device is designed exclusively for nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) and nickel-cadmium (NiCd) rechargeable batteries. Lithium batteries have completely different charging characteristics and must not be connected under any circumstances (fire hazard).

How do I connect my battery?

The device is usually supplied with a standard Tamiya plug (white, 2-pin), which is very common in modelling. An adapter set is often included (e.g. crocodile clips for open cable ends or jack plugs). Always ensure that the polarity is correct (red to plus, black to minus).

Do I have to set the voltage?

No, that's the big advantage of this charger. You simply connect the pack. The microcontroller automatically recognises the voltage level of the pack and adjusts the charging process accordingly, regardless of whether it is a small 2-cell pack or a large 10-cell pack.

What do the LEDs mean?

Typically: Red (steady light): The battery is charged quickly. Yellow (if available): The battery is discharged (discharge function active). Green: The battery is full and is trickle charged. Flashing: Error or polarity reversed (please observe operating instructions).
