Batterytester Smart Adapter for Yamaha PW System 36V
Description
Product information
This specialised Smart Adapter is the essential connector for the professional diagnosis of e-bike batteries from the Yamaha PW series (36V). As Yamaha batteries have an intelligent management system that blocks the current output without communication with the drive unit, this adapter is necessary to "wake up" the battery for testing purposes. It establishes the physical and electronic connection between your battery tester and the battery and thus enables precise statements to be made about capacity and state of health (SoH).
Highlights at a glance
- Specific compatibility: Developed for all 36V batteries of the Yamaha PW system (incl. PW-X, PW-SE, PW-ST, PW-TE), for both frame and rack batteries.
- BMS activation: Simulates drive unit communication to trigger the battery management system (BMS) to enable the discharge output.
- Precise connection: Features the specific Yamaha system connector, which ensures safe and polarity reversal-free contacting of the battery terminals.
- Professional diagnosis: Enables dealers and workshops to create reliable test reports and objectively assess complaints or used bikes.
- Robust workshop quality: High-quality materials and strain relief ensure longevity in daily service use.
- Simple handling: Plug & Play – connect the adapter, the tester recognises the battery and starts communication automatically.
Precise analysis for Yamaha PW batteries
Yamaha e-bike batteries are designed so that, for safety reasons, they have no voltage on the main contacts when they are not mounted in the bike and switched on. A simple measurement with a multimeter therefore often shows 0V. This Smart Adapter overcomes this obstacle by sending the necessary control signals. This closes the main relay in the battery and your test device can record a realistic discharge curve under load.
Standard for Haibike, Winora and Co.
The Yamaha PW system is one of the most widely used drive systems in the e-MTB and trekking sector (installed on Haibike, Winora, Raymon, Lapierre, among others). For workshops servicing these brands, this adapter is indispensable for carrying out efficient fault diagnoses and reliably determining the condition of leasing returns.

FAQs about the Smart Adapter for Yamaha PW
Can I measure the battery with a multimeter without an adapter?
No. Yamaha PW batteries switch off their main contacts ("sleep mode") as soon as they are disconnected from the bike. Without the adapter, which signals to the battery "I am an e-bike", you will not be able to measure any voltage at the contacts, even if the battery is fully charged.
Does the adapter fit the old 26V Yamaha batteries?
No. The older Yamaha 26V systems (often known as Yamaha PAS) use a different connector shape and technology. This adapter is specifically designed for the newer 36V PW generation (from approx. 2014).
Does the adapter also work with Intube batteries?
Yamaha Intube batteries (integrated in the frame) often use the same electrical connection as the external frame batteries. If the connector fits mechanically, the adapter will also work. Compatibility should be checked for some third-party batteries (e.g. Simplo for Yamaha).
Can I charge via the adapter?
The adapter is primarily designed for the discharging process (diagnosis). Yamaha batteries should always be charged using the original Yamaha charger, as this also controls temperature monitoring and balancing during charging.
