Tadiran SL-889P High-performance lithium battery with 3.0 V and 1.0 Ah, with pins

Description

Product information

The Tadiran SL-889P from the TLM series is a primary high-performance lithium battery developed for applications with extremely high current and pulse requirements. In contrast to conventional lithium thionyl chloride cells, which are optimised for energy density, this cell is designed for maximum power density. With the ability to deliver pulses up to 5 A, it is the ideal energy solution for the most demanding military, medical and industrial applications. This version is pre-assembled with robust pins for direct and secure mounting on PCBs.

Highlights at a glance

  • Extreme pulse capability: Reliably delivers high current pulses of up to 5 A.
  • High continuous current: Suitable for demanding continuous loads of up to 2 A.
  • Fast voltage response: Low voltage drop and stable voltage even under high load.
  • Compact energy source: 1.0 Ah capacity in a robust, special shape (Ø21mm).
  • For PCB mounting: Pre-assembled with pins for an extremely resilient solder connection.

Powerful in a wide range of applications

The Tadiran SL-889P was specifically developed for applications where high performance must be accessed in fractions of a second. Its primary areas of use include military communication technology (radios), medical devices such as defibrillators, emergency systems, pyrotechnic igniters, and professional cordless power tools. It is the first choice when conventional primary cells cannot deliver the required performance.

TLM series: The technology for maximum performance

TLM (Tadiran Lithium Metal Oxide) technology is based on a unique lithium metal oxide chemistry optimized for high power output. In contrast to Li-SOCl₂ cells designed for longevity, TLM technology enables the construction of cells with very low internal resistance. This leads to a rapid voltage response without the delay caused by passivation and enables the delivery of extremely high currents from a compact and lightweight housing, which is also hermetically sealed and very safe.

Engineered for maximum robustness

Each cell of the TLM series is designed for use in harsh conditions. The hermetically sealed glass-to-metal seal and stainless steel housing ensure high resistance to shocks, vibrations, and demanding environments. The pre-assembled solder pins allow an especially strong and durable connection to the PCB, which further enhances the reliability of the overall system.

FAQs about this Tadiran high-performance battery

What is the main difference between the TLM (SL-800) and the Li-SOCl₂ (e.g. SL-700) series?

The main difference lies in the design goal. The TLM series is optimised like a sprinter for maximum performance (high currents). The Li-SOCl₂ series are optimised like marathon runners for maximum energy (long service life at low current). They therefore cater to completely different application requirements.

For which applications is a TLM battery the right choice?

A TLM battery is ideal for devices that require very high power for a short period. Examples include rapid charging of capacitors in a defibrillator, transmission process of a military radio, or initiating a pyrotechnic igniter.

What is the advantage of pin connection?

Pins offer an extremely robust and mechanically stable connection when soldered directly to a printed circuit board (PCB). This is particularly important for devices exposed to strong vibrations, shocks, or accelerations, as found in military or industrial environments.

Why is the nominal voltage specified as 3.0 V?

While the open circuit voltage is higher, the nominal voltage of 3.0 V is a realistic value that reflects the stable cell voltage under typical high load. For a high-performance cell, the voltage under load is a crucial quality characteristic.

Is this battery rechargeable?

No, this is a primary lithium battery and must not be recharged under any circumstances. Attempting to charge a high-performance cell is extremely dangerous.
