Yuasa SWL780V VRLA high-performance battery
Description
Product information
The Yuasa SWL780V is a compact VRLA high-performance battery with 12 volts and 28.8 Ah (C20). It is characterised by a 10-minute power rating of 815 W per block and offers a combination of high short-term performance and long service life. This battery is ideal for UPS systems, emergency and safety power supplies, data centres, telecommunications as well as industrial control systems.
Highlights at a glance
- High performance: 815 W per block at 10 minutes up to 9.6 V block voltage, alternatively 135.83 W per cell up to 1.6 V per cell at 20 °C.
- Powerful current output: up to 500 A for 1 second, 150 A for 1 minute.
- Long service life: EUROBAT High Performance 10 to 12 years, Yuasa service life up to 10 years at 20 °C.
- Flexible installation: Operation is possible in any orientation except permanently upside down.
- Low self-discharge: approximately 3 percent per month at 20 °C.
Maximum performance for demanding applications
Thanks to low impedance and high short-term current capability, the SWL780V delivers reliable peak performance and keeps the output voltage stable. This makes it ideal for UPS systems with high power density, safety power supplies, communication nodes and buffer applications in critical infrastructures.
Efficiency meets long service life
Standby operation:
- The float charge voltage is 13.65 V ±1 % per block (2.275 V per cell) at a temperature of 20 °C.
- Temperature compensation is –3 mV per cell and degree Celsius.
- Current limitation is not required.
Fast charge:
- The charge voltage is 14.50 V ±3 % per block (2.42 V per cell).
- Temperature compensation is –4 mV per cell and degree Celsius.
- The recommended current is 6.125 A.
Technology for flexible applications
The wide temperature range enables versatile applications: discharge from minus 20 °C to plus 60 °C, charging from minus 15 °C to plus 50 °C, storage from minus 20 °C to plus 60 °C. The robust housing is made of ABS to UL94 HB. Each cell is equipped with a low-pressure valve for safe pressure regulation. VRLA batteries must not be operated in sealed housings, as hydrogen may be generated.

FAQ about the Yuasa SWL780V
What is the SWL780V designed for?
The SWL780V is designed for use in UPS systems and applications requiring high short-term performance. This high-rate VRLA series is classified as "Long Life" (10 to 12 years) according to EUROBAT.
What distinguishes SWL from NPL?
The SWL series is an advancement of the NPL design and offers an improved energy-to-density ratio. It typically delivers up to 40 percent more high-current discharge capacity. Mechanical and electrical characteristics remain largely compatible.
Which discharge data are relevant for high current use?
The relevant discharge data for high current use are as follows:
- Typical constant power: 815 W per block for 10 minutes (up to 9.6 V).
- Maximum discharge current:
- 500 A for 1 second
- 150 A for 1 minute
- Internal resistance: approx. 18 mΩ (according to EN IEC 60896-21)
- Impedance: approx. 8.5 mΩ (at 1 kHz)
What is the expected service life?
EUROBAT Long Life batteries have an expected service life of 10 to 12 years. Yuasa batteries have a design life of up to 10 years, each at 20 °C in standby operation.
Is the SWL780V also suitable for cyclic applications?
It can be used in cyclic operation, but it is primarily designed for standby and high-current discharge. For frequent charge and discharge cycles, cyclic series such as REC or NPC are the better choice.
Is the SWL780V suitable as a replacement for standard 12 V-28 Ah blocks?
Yes, often it is, provided the dimensions, M5 female thread terminals, charging parameters and required high-current performance match. Please always check the device data sheet and/or the manufacturer's approval.
