Battery 5VTF STD - 6V NiCd special battery for CEAG Halo 6 Ex

Description

Product information

The 5VTF STD battery is the specific replacement battery pack for the proven explosion-protected hand lamp CEAG Halo 6 Ex (today often listed under Eaton / Cooper Crouse-Hinds). This robust battery stick consists of 5 high-quality nickel-cadmium cells (Ni-Cd) of size D (mono), which are connected to form a powerful 6-volt unit.

The designation "VTF" indicates a high-temperature-resistant cell chemistry (often from Saft or comparable manufacturers), which was specially developed for rough industrial use and the charging characteristic of the Halo charging stations. This battery guarantees the necessary reliability for fire brigades, rescue services and work in potentially explosive atmospheres.

Highlights at a glance

  • Precisely fitting replacement: Specially assembled for the CEAG Halo 6 Ex hand lamp (and compatible models) to ensure safe operation.
  • Proven Ni-Cd technology: The robust nickel-cadmium chemistry is extremely resistant to deep discharge and also delivers reliable power at low temperatures.
  • High temperature resistant (VTF): The cells are designed for higher operating temperatures, which is especially important during charging in a closed case or in use in hot environments.
  • Solid performance: With a nominal voltage of 6.0 V and typically 4000 mAh capacity, the pack provides sufficient energy for long work shifts.
  • Durability: With proper care (avoidance of the memory effect), these industrial cells often last well over 1000 charging cycles.

Areas of application

This battery pack is a genuine spare part for professional lighting technology:

  • Ex-protected hand lamps: Primarily for the CEAG Halo 6 Ex series.
  • Safety lighting: In older emergency lights that require 6V NiCd bar batteries.
  • Industry & Mining: Where robust, intrinsically safe lamps with NiCd charging technology are in use.

Assembly & safety instructions

  • Observe ex-protection: When working on explosion-protected equipment (ATEX), battery replacement may only be carried out outside the Ex-zone and in strict compliance with manufacturer specifications. Check whether the use of replacement batteries affects the Ex-approval of your device.
  • Ni-Cd care: Nickel-cadmium batteries tend to memory effect. Discharge the lamp completely from time to time (until the light becomes significantly weaker) before recharging to maintain the full capacity.
  • Environment & disposal: Ni-Cd batteries contain the toxic heavy metal cadmium. They must not under any circumstances be disposed of with household waste, but must be properly disposed of via take-back systems.

FAQs about the 5VTF STD battery

Can I install a Ni-MH battery with more capacity instead?

Caution is advised. Although Ni-MH batteries offer more capacity and are more environmentally friendly, the charging electronics of the old Halo 6 Ex is often specially tailored to the end-of-charge voltage and temperature curve of Ni-Cd. An Ni-MH battery might overheat or not fully charge in the original charger. If in doubt, stick with the original chemistry (Ni-Cd) unless the manufacturer authorises an upgrade.

What does "VTF" mean?

The abbreviation originally comes from the cell manufacturer Saft and denotes a Ventilated Ni-Cd cell of the series T (High Temperature) and size F (or design). It stands synonymously for high temperature resistant industrial NiCd cells, which are particularly durable when continuously charged (emergency lighting).

How do I store the battery if I rarely use the lamp?

Ideally, store Ni-Cd batteries in a discharged or partially discharged state in a cool place. Before the next use, however, they must be fully charged. If storing for a long time, carry out a charge/discharge cycle ("Cycle Use") every 6 months.
