Sonnenschein SOLAR S12/230 A lead-gel battery 12V 230Ah

Description

Product information

The Sonnenschein S12/230 A is an absolutely maintenance-free lead-gel block battery with a very high capacity, specially developed for the extreme requirements in cyclical solar and off-grid use. As part of the globally proven Sonnenschein SOLAR series with Dryfit® Gel technology, this battery offers unrivalled cycle stability and reliability. With a nominal voltage of 12V and a very high nominal capacity of 230 Ah (C100), it is the ideal storage solution for self-sufficient energy systems, holiday homes, motorhomes, and marine applications.

Highlights at a Glance

  • Superior Dryfit® Gel Technology: Absolutely maintenance-free throughout its entire service life, maximum reliability and leak-proof.
  • Extremely high cycle stability: Developed for daily deep charge-discharge operation (approx. 800 cycles at 60% DoD).
  • Very high capacity: 230 Ah (C100) for reliable and long-lasting energy buffering over several days.
  • Deep-discharge safe: Excellent recovery even after repeated deep discharges and robust against acid stratification.
  • Low self-discharge: Perfect for seasonal use or phases of low sunlight.

Maximum Supply Security for Autonomous Systems

The Sonnenschein S12/230 A is the specialist for cyclical applications where the battery is charged and discharged daily. Its main areas of application are off-grid solar systems for holiday homes, mountain huts, camper vans, boats, and yachts. In addition, it is ideal for professional applications in telecommunications, traffic guidance systems or signalling systems requiring an independent and maintenance-free power supply.

Proven Dryfit® Gel Technology

The Dryfit® Gel technology invented and perfected by Sonnenschein binds the electrolyte in a thixotropic silica gel. This makes the battery not only absolutely leak-proof and maintenance-free, but also effectively prevents acid stratification – one of the main causes of premature battery failure during solar operation. The gel technology ensures excellent cycle stability and a very low self-discharge rate.

Developed for Durability and Reliability

The SOLAR series was developed for maximum cost-effectiveness over the entire service life. Its extremely high cycle life greatly reduces the need for costly and time-intensive battery replacement. The high manufacturing quality and use of ultra-pure materials ensure consistent performance and thereby contribute to the high operational safety of your independent energy supply.

FAQs on the Sonnenschein S12/230 A Lead-Gel Battery

What is the main advantage of Dryfit® Gel Technology in solar applications?

In cyclical solar use, avoiding acid stratification is crucial. In gel batteries, the electrolyte is bound, which prevents stratification and makes the battery more resistant to deep discharges. This results in a significantly longer lifespan than with AGM or wet-cell batteries in this application.

What do the capacity ratings C10 and C100 mean?

The capacity of a battery depends on how quickly it is discharged. The C-rate indicates the discharge current. C100 (discharge over 100 hours) is the standard for solar applications, as slow discharges over several days are common here. C10 (discharge over 10 hours) is relevant for a faster discharge.

What is the difference between this solar battery (S series) and a standby battery (A series)?

A solar battery (cyclical) like this one is optimised for daily deep discharge and recharge (high number of cycles). A standby battery (A series) is designed for standby parallel operation (e.g. in UPS systems), is permanently charged, and only rarely discharged (long design lifespan in years).

How should this lead battery be disposed of?

Lead batteries contain environmentally hazardous substances and must not be disposed of in household waste. You can return your used battery free of charge to any dealer who sells new batteries or to municipal recycling centres to ensure proper recycling.
