ANSMANN automatic charger ALCS 2-24 A for lead-acid batteries
Description
Product information
The Ansmann ALCS 2-24 A is an intelligent and universal desktop or plug-in charger for lead battery systems. The special feature of this device is its fully automatic voltage detection: it automatically detects whether a 2V, 6V, 12V or 24V battery is connected and adjusts the charging parameters accordingly. This makes it the ideal all-rounder for hobby, car workshops and home use to safely charge and maintain lead-acid, lead-gel and lead-fleece (AGM) batteries over winter.
Highlights at a glance
- Fully automatic voltage detection: The device automatically detects the voltage of the connected battery (2V, 6V, 12V or 24V) and sets the optimal charging mode – no manual switches required.
- Versatile compatibility: Suitable for all common lead battery types (lead-acid, lead-gel, lead-fleece/AGM) with capacities of approx. 1.3 Ah to 24 Ah.
- Overcharge protection & trickle charge: After reaching the final charging voltage, the device automatically switches to trickle charging, which prevents overcharging and keeps the battery fresh.
- Winter mode: Perfectly suited for winter storage of seasonal vehicles (motorbike, vintage car, lawn tractor), as the battery can remain connected at all times.
- Safety features: Equipped with protection against short circuit and reverse polarity (incorrect connection), indicated by red LEDs to prevent damage to the battery and device.
- Easy connection: The high-quality terminal clamps (crocodile clips) enable quick and secure contact with the battery terminals.
Intelligent charging technology "Connect & Forget"
The ALCS 2-24 A works according to the "connect and forget" principle. As soon as the terminal clamps are in contact, the microprocessor analyses the battery. Charging is carried out according to an IU characteristic curve, which first charges the battery with constant current and then keeps the voltage constant. The charging currents adapt to the voltage:
- 2V batteries: 900 mA
- 6V batteries: 700 mA
- 12V batteries: 600 mA
- 24V batteries: 300 mA This ensures gentle charging for small to medium-sized batteries.
Ideal for hobby and household
With its wide coverage from 2V to 24V, this one device replaces several individual chargers. It is ideal for charging batteries in children's vehicles (often 6V or 12V), motorbikes, alarm systems, UPS systems or hand-held spotlights.

FAQs about the Ansmann ALCS 2-24 A
How do I know if the battery is full?
The green "Charge" LED lights up during charging. When this LED goes out or its intensity changes significantly (model dependent, often switches to trickle charge), the battery is fully charged. The device can then remain connected.
Can I use it to charge a car battery?
Theoretically yes, but it takes a very long time. With 600mA charging current at 12V, an empty 60Ah car battery would take about 100 hours to charge. The device is intended more for motorcycle batteries or for maintenance (care in winter) of car batteries, not for rapid recharging of large starter batteries.
What happens if I swap the clamps?
The device has electronic reverse polarity protection. If you swap plus and minus, a red LED ("Polarity") lights up and the charging process does not start. No damage occurs to the device.
Can I use it to charge lithium batteries?
No, not at all. This charger is only designed for lead-acid technologies. Lithium batteries require special charging methods; connecting them to this device can destroy the lithium battery or pose a safety risk.
