What does "S-95" mean?

S-95 is the JIS code for a start-stop high-performance battery in a D26 housing. If your old battery says "S-95" or "S-85", the YBX7030 is the exact replacement.

What is the difference to the Q-85 (YBX7005)?

The difference is in the size and performance.

• Q-85 (YBX7005): Approx. 23 cm long (D23 housing), usually 60-65 Ah.
• S-95 (YBX7030): Approx. 26 cm long (D26 housing), 80 Ah. They are not interchangeable, as the S-95 does not fit mechanically into the Q-85’s holder and, conversely, the Q-85 would be too weak for S-95 vehicles.

Can I use this battery instead of a normal YBX5068 (D26)?

Yes, this is a very good upgrade. The YBX5068 is the standard wet battery (without start-stop) of the same size. If you install the YBX7030 in a vehicle without start-stop, you will benefit from a much longer service life and better cold start characteristics. The other way round (standard battery in a start-stop car) is not allowed.

Do I have to initialise the battery?

Yes, almost always. Vehicles that require an S-95 battery (e.g. Mazda Skyactiv Diesel, Nissan Start-Stop) have a battery management system. After replacement, the battery sensor often needs to be reset ("initialise battery") so that the i-Stop system works again and the battery is charged correctly.
