CNC battery 1756BA1 for Allen Bradley - 3V lithium PLC backup battery
Description
Product information
The CNC Battery 1756BA1 is a high-quality lithium replacement battery specially developed for the requirements of Allen Bradley (Rockwell Automation) control systems. This 3.0-volt power source serves as a critical backup for the volatile memory (RAM) of your PLC controller.
A failure of the buffer battery can have fatal consequences in industry: loss of the control programme, machine parameters or tool data. This battery ensures that your ControlLogix Series 5561, 5562, 5563 and 5564 controllers retain all data securely even in the event of a power failure or system shutdown. It is the cost-efficient and reliable alternative to the OEM part.
Highlights at a glance
- Full compatibility: Developed as a precisely fitting replacement for the Allen Bradley part numbers 1756-BA1, 1756-BA2 and 94194801.
- Lithium technology: The lithium cell (often Li-MnO2) offers a high energy density and a stable voltage of 3.0 Volt over almost the entire service life.
- Long shelf life: Thanks to a very low self-discharge rate (< 1% per year), this battery can be stored for up to 10 years and is reliable for years in use.
- Plug included: The battery is supplied as a finished assembly with cable and the specific 2-pin connector supplied. No soldering or tinkering is necessary ("Plug & Play").
- Data security: Protects against the loss of PLC programmes, system configurations and real-time clock (RTC) data in the event of a power failure.
- Industry standard: Robust construction that is resistant to vibrations and temperature fluctuations in control cabinets.
Areas of application
This battery is essential for the following systems of the Rockwell Automation / Allen Bradley family:
- ControlLogix 5561 (1756-L61) processors (Series A).
- ControlLogix 5562 (1756-L62) processors (Series A).
- ControlLogix 5563 (1756-L63) processors (Series A).
- ControlLogix 5564 (1756-L64) processors (Series A).
- CNC controls: Used in various machine tools based on AB control technology.
Installation & safety instructions
- Change during operation: To prevent data loss during battery replacement, the battery should often be replaced while the controller (PLC) is powered on (Power ON). However, always check the manual for your specific controller beforehand to ensure that this is permitted and safe.
- Create backup: Always make a backup of the PLC programme to a non-volatile memory (e.g. CompactFlash card or PC) before replacing the battery to be on the safe side.
- Battery LED: Replace the battery immediately when the red "BAT" or "BATT LOW" LED on the front of the CPU lights up.
- Disposal: Lithium batteries do not belong in household waste. Dispose of the used battery in accordance with local regulations for hazardous materials.

FAQs about the 1756BA1
How long does this backup battery last?
In normal operation (when the machine is mostly switched on) the battery often lasts 2 to 5 years. The battery is only loaded when the machine is switched off. If the system is stored without power for a long period, the battery discharges more rapidly. Manufacturers often recommend a preventive replacement every 12 months.
What happens if I don't change the battery?
If the battery is empty and the machine is switched off (or the power fails), the RAM memory is deleted. The PLC programme and all parameters are lost. The machine must be reprogrammed/reloaded, which can lead to significant production downtime.
Does this battery also fit Series B processors?
Attention: The B series of ControlLogix L6x processors sometimes use other battery modules (e.g. 1756-BA2, which is often identical in design, or completely different modules for newer series such as L7x, which use capacitors). Always compare the connector and design with the old battery. The cell described here is a cylindrical cell attached to a cable.
