Batterytester Smart adapter for Shimano Steps E8000 / EP8 36V
Description
Product information
This specialised Smart Adapter is the professional interface for diagnosing high-performance batteries of the Shimano Steps E-MTB series (E8000, E7000 and EP8). In contrast to the older E6000 series, these modern E-mountain bike systems use different connection technology and communication. As Shimano batteries completely shut down when removed for safety (deep sleep), this adapter is absolutely essential. It simulates the presence of the drive unit, wakes up the battery management system (BMS) and activates the main contacts for precise capacity measurement.
Highlights at a Glance
- Specific compatibility: Developed for the Shimano Steps Performance Line (E8000, E7000) and the EP8 series (EP800/EP801), suitable for external and Intube batteries.
- BMS activation: Takes over the digital "handshake" to wake the battery from sleep mode and release the voltage at the contacts.
- Precise connection: Features the specific connector for the Shimano E-MTB battery generation (e.g. for BT-E8010, BT-E8020, BT-E8035).
- Professional diagnostics: Enables dealers to create valid service reports on the state of health (SoH) of high-quality E-mountain bikes.
- Robust workshop quality: High-quality cables and durable connectors guarantee reliability in tough workshop use.
- Plug & Play: Easiest handling without software configuration on the adapter – connect and the test device starts communication.
Precise Analysis for Shimano E-MTB Power
The batteries of the E8000 and EP8 series are designed for heavy off-road loads. To reliably assess their condition – for example with leasing returns or the sale of used E-MTBs – a multimeter is not enough, as the contacts are de-energised. This Smart Adapter allows your battery tester to simulate a realistic riding load. This way you can reliably detect whether the battery is still delivering full power for steep climbs or whether the internal resistance has increased with age.
Standard for Performance Workshops
Shimano drives are installed in countless high-end E-MTBs (e.g. from Commencal, Husqvarna, Merida, Santa Cruz). This adapter is the crucial tool for professional maintenance of these bikes and to provide customers with reliable information about their range.

FAQs about the Smart Adapter for Shimano E8000 / EP8
Is this adapter identical to the one for Shimano E6000?
No. The older E6000 system (City/Trekking) uses different connectors than the more powerful E8000/EP8 systems. Although both have 36V, the connector does not fit mechanically. Please check the model number of your battery (BT-E...).
Can I measure the voltage without an adapter?
No. Shimano batteries have a strict safety shutoff. If they are not communicating with the motor, there are 0 volts at the contacts. The Smart Adapter is the only way to bypass this lockout for diagnostics.
Can I charge via the adapter?
The adapter is primarily designed for connection to the diagnostic device (discharging). Charging should always be done with the original Shimano charger (e.g. EC-E6002 or EC-E8004) to ensure cell balancing.
Does it also work with third-party batteries for Shimano?
Many third-party manufacturers (e.g. Simplo or Darfon) that build batteries for Shimano systems use the same communication protocol and the same connector. In these cases, the adapter usually works without any problems.
