Can the system be expanded later to 25–30 kWh?
Yes, up to six modules are possible per tower, which results in a maximum capacity of 30.7 kWh per stack. By connecting up to six towers in parallel, the system can be flexibly expanded to a total capacity of over 180 kWh.
How much energy is actually available?
A system with four modules offers 20.48 kWh gross capacity. With a recommended depth of discharge of 90 %, around 18.4 kWh of usable energy is available, ideal for demanding self-consumption and backup applications.
Which inverters are “plug-&-play” compatible with the system?
The storage system is fully matched to Deye hybrid inverters in the low-voltage series . The connection is made without additional configuration. All relevant communication protocols are integrated ex works. Checking against the compatibility list is recommended. Deye storage systems are only compatible with Deye inverters.
Do I need active cooling?
No, the system uses purely passive convection for heat dissipation. According to the manual, only a free air flow behind the housing is required to ensure reliable heat dissipation. Fans or external cooling systems are not necessary.
Does the battery need to be fully charged before first use?
Yes, the system should be charged to 100 % once before commissioning. This initial charge ensures that the state of charge (SoC) is correctly detected and prevents incorrect displays or abrupt SoC jumps during later operation. You can charge the storage unit with the inverter. If no solar energy is available, the inverter can also charge the storage unit via the grid.

System composition
- This product is a set and consists of five separate main components, which together form a 20.48 kWh tower system.
Component 1: Deye AI-W5.1-B-BMS (control unit & base)
- The central control unit (BMS cluster) that manages the entire system. This unit forms the base of the battery tower.
Components 2, 3, 4 & 5: Four Deye AI-W5.1-BATT battery modules (5.12 kWh each)
- Four pure battery modules with 5.12 kWh each, which are stacked on the BMS unit and on top of each other.
1 x set of battery connection cables (positive & negative)
- A pair of high-performance cables for connecting the BMS unit to an external hybrid inverter.
1 x communication cable (CAN/RS485)
- A data cable for communication between the BMS and the inverter.
3 x connecting bridge / parallel connection cable
- Short, robust cables or fixed bridges to connect the four battery modules to each other.
1 x earthing cable
- A protective earth conductor cable for the proper earthing of the BMS unit.
1 x mounting accessories (tower assembly)
- Includes screws or locking elements to securely connect the five components into a tower.
