Description
Product information
This solar extension cable set (10 metres, 4mm²) offers you maximum freedom when positioning your solar modules. With a length of 10 metres, you can easily bridge longer distances – for example, from the garden shed to the storage in the basement or from the sunny installation site in the garden to the feed-in socket at the house.
The set consists of two high-quality, double-insulated solar cables (1x red for positive, 1x black for negative), which are already pre-assembled with MC4-compatible connectors. Despite the length of 10 metres, the 4mm² cross-section made of tinned copper ensures low-loss power transmission. The sheathing is extremely weather-resistant, UV-stable and designed for permanent outdoor use in heat, cold and moisture.
Highlights at a glance
- Long range: 10 metre cable length enables flexible location choice of the modules far from the inverter.
- Plug & Play: Pre-assembled on both sides with MC4-compatible plugs and sockets – no tools required.
- Safe installation: The set of Red (+) and Black (-) prevents dangerous polarity reversal mistakes when cabling.
- Low loss: The high-quality copper conductor (4mm²) keeps the voltage drop low even at 10 metres distance (ideal for typical module currents up to 20A).
- Extremely robust: The special insulation is resistant to UV radiation, ozone, acids and alkalis, and temperature resistant from -40°C to +90°C.
- Waterproof (IP67): The connected joints are dustproof and protected against temporary submersion.
Areas of application
The 10-metre extension is the problem solver for long runs:
- Open area & garden installation: If the modules are positioned in the sunny part of the garden but the inverter or feed-in point is located at the house.
- Camping & mobile solar: Enables the camper van to park in the shade while the mobile solar module is 10 metres away in full sun.
- Roof-to-basement connection: For routing the DC cables from the roof through empty ducts to the charge controller or inverter in the utility room.
- Building shading: To place modules in locations that are not hit by the shadow of your own house in the morning or evening.
Installation & safety instructions
- Cable laying: At 10 metres length, the cables should not be left loose. Secure them with cable ties or lay them in a protective pipe/cable duct to protect against mechanical damage (lawnmower, animal bites) and tripping hazards.
- Avoid coiling: If you do not need the full 10 metres, do not coil the excess cable tightly (induction effect/heat). Lay it out rather in wide loops ("meandering").
- Check connection: When plugging together, listen for the audible "click" of the connectors to prevent arcing and moisture ingress.
- Disconnecting under load: Never pull apart the connectors under load (when the sun is shining). Turn off the inverter or cover the modules first.

FAQs on the 10m solar extension cable
Is 4mm² sufficient for 10 metres or is there too much loss?
For normal applications (balcony power station/camping), 4mm² is absolutely sufficient. For a typical solar module (approx. 10-13 amps), the voltage drop over 10 metres (go and return = 20m cable length) is very low (mostly under 1-2%). An upgrade to 6mm² is only necessary for very high currents (e.g. parallel connection of several modules before the cable) or for even longer lengths.
Can I shorten the cable if 10 metres is too long?
Yes, but with effort. You can cut the cable but will lose the moulded/crimped connector on one side. You will then need special crimping pliers for solar cable and new MC4 connectors to re-establish a connection. Simple terminal block connections or soldering are not recommended for outdoor high current solar applications.
May I bury the cable directly in the ground?
No, better not without protection. Although the insulation is very robust, standard solar cables are not specified for permanent burial (danger from stones, moisture, rodents). For the garden run, use a cost-effective PE empty pipe or a flexible cable protection hose.Properties
